Google announced the latest version of Android, the 4.4 KitKat along with the flagship phone from LG, the Nexus 5. Nexus 5 packs the best hardware along with Android 4.4. The latest version of Android 4.4 KitKat comes with quite a lot of new features and similar to previous versions Google has added new features along with minor changes to the Android UI.
One of the new changes to Android 4.4 is the launcher. The default launcher has been given some UI changes along with new features. As of now Android 4.4 is available only on Nexus 5, but you can now try the new launcher on any Android phone running Jelly Bean.
The launcher has been extracted from Nexus 5 and is now available for other Android phones. Please note that this launcher might not work on all phones and you will need Android Jelly Bean (4.1, 4.2 or 4.3 ) to install this. To install the launcher, first download the file from here. This contains three files;
- PreBuiltGmsCore.apk (Google Play Services 4.0)
- Velvet.apk (Google Search app)
- GoogleHome.apk (Launcher app)
Install all the three apk files on your phone. Once installed, select the new launcher as the default launcher and you can experience the Android 4.4 Launcher on your phone. Here is a quick video on the new launcher from Android 4.4 KitKat.
