Samsung Galaxy J3 FAQs, Pros and Cons

Samsung announced their latest smartphone in the budget segment, the Galaxy J3 in India. The phone comes with 5 inch Super AMOLED screen HD display and is powered by a quad-core processor with Spreadtrum SC9830 64-bit processor with Mali-400 GPU and coupled with 1.5GB of RAM. There is only 8GB internal storage available, but you can expand via micro SD card.

It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with custom TouchWiz UI from Samsung. On the imaging front, it has 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera for selfies. It also comes with a 2600mAh battery. If you are looking to buy this device, here are the FAQs, Pros, and Cons of the device.

1. What is the display Resolution: The phone has HD display which means the resolution is 1280 X 720p and it has SUPER AMOLED panel.

2. Does it have any protection on the display: No, Samsung isn’t offering any protection on the display

3. Which all sensors are included: The phone has Accelerometer and proximity sensor. There is no ambient light sensor.

4. What is the processor and GPU on the phone: J3 has Spreadtrum SC8830 64 bit Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 with Mali 400 GPU and 1.5GB RAM

5. What is the internal storage available: The phone has 8GB internal storage and around 4.5GB is available to the user in first boot.

6. Is there Full HD video recording and playback: No, the phone supports only HD video recording.

7. Does it have a dual SIM card and Micro SD card: Yes, the phone comes with dual SIM card, depending on the market. It has micro SD card for expanding the memory

8. What is the Android version: The phone has Android 5.1 Lollipop with Touchwiz UI

9. Does it have LED notification: Yes

10. Does it come with USB OTG support: Yes

11. How is the gaming performance: The gaming performance was just average and not really suited for heavy gaming.

12. Does the phone get heated: Heating is nominal on the device even with heavy games

13. What all accessories are included in the phone: It comes with USB cable, Charger, and Earphone

14. What is the battery capacity? The phone comes with 2600mAh battery

15. What are the colors available: The phone comes in Black, White and Gold colors.

Pros:

1. Good Display: Samsung mostly uses the SUPER AMOLED panel on their mid-range phones, but with J3 which is a budget phone, Samsung has included the AMOLED panel and it looks quite good. The colors are vivid and punchy.

2. Decent Cameras: While the phone comes with only 8MP rear camera, the camera quality is quite decent for a budget smartphone and the images have come good in daylight.

3. NFC: The phone comes with NFC chip to enable the S Bike Mode.

4. S Bike Mode: This is a new feature from Samsung for bikers using the phone. More details available here.

5. Samsung’s reputed service: Samsung has been in mobile segment for years now and they have a reputed network of service centers.

 

Cons:

1 Same old design and Build: Samsung hasn’t done any changes to the design of the budget and mid-range phones and it looks the same.

2. Not the best processor: While most of the devices are using Octa core and better Quad core processors, Samsung is using a Speadtrum Quad core chipset which is not the best one considering the price.

3. Pricing: When you compare with the competition it is not the best pricing for this device.

4. Older version of Android: Even though it has been 5 months since the release of Android 6.0, the phone still comes with Android Lollipop.

5. Lack of Full HD video recording: The phone supports only 720P video recording which is disappointing for a phone in this price segment.

6. Lack of basic sensors: The phone comes with only accelerometer and proximity sensor and does not come with even the basic ambient light sensor.

7. Low internal storage: The phone has just 8GB internal storage which is pretty low for a phone priced Rs 8999.
