During the Google I/O company had announced the latest version of Android M update with new features and also improvements. Today, the company announced the official name and version for Android M. Officially Android M is Marshmallow and will be version 6.0.
Google has also released the final Android 6.0 SDK which is now available to download via the SDK Manager in Android Studio. With the Android 6.0 SDK you have access to the final Android APIs.
One of the important features of this version apart from the new platform features like fingerprint support and Doze power saving mode, is the new permissions model that streamlines the app install and update process. To give users this flexibility and to make sure your app behaves as expected when an Android Marshmallow user disables a specific permission.
Whats new in this version?
- Android Platform Change:
- Final Permissions User Interface — updated the permissions user interface and enhanced some of the permissions behavior.
- API Change:
- Updates to the Fingerprint API — which enables better error reporting, better fingerprint enrolment experience, plus enumeration support for greater reliability.
While there isn’t significant changes to the interface like the Android 5.0 which brought lot in UI changes, there are other features like Google’s new Android Pay mobile wallet platform, USB Type-C support, and a number of tweaks and improvements throughout the operating system. It succeeds Android 5.0 Lollipop which is now the latest version.
The Android 6.0 will be available for devices later this year along with the release of Google Nexus devices.
