XOLO One Unboxing and First Impressions

XOLO has announced a new entry level phone, the XOLO One few days back and this device has specifications very similar to the Android One Platform where the specs are determined by Google. We also did the review of Micromax Canvas A1, the first Android One phone from the company. XOLO One has a 4.5 inch FWVGA display with 218 pixels per inch and it runs on a 1.3Ghz Quad Core MediaTek processor. The device is also powered by 1GB of RAM and comes with 8GB internal storage.

While the internal storage on XOLO One is 8GB, Android One devices are limited to 4GB. XOLO One also features 5MP fixed focus camera with LED flash and also a VGA front facing camera. Now the important aspect, the OS and this phone runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and is upgradable to Android Lollipop. The company has promised the update for this device.

So here is the unboxing of the device and the first impressions.

Here is the unboxing video of the device.

Inside the box you have the phone, USB cable, charger, earphones, manuals and a screen guard which is a welcome move.

The XOLO One has a pretty good design when compared to the other Android One devices. Also there is a faux leather finish on the rear panel which makes it look premium.

The phone has power button on the right side and volume keys on the left. The 3.5mm audio jack and the USB charging slot are located on the top.

The rear panel has the 5MP camera with LED flash, XOLO logo and the speakers at the bottom. Overall, the build quality of the device is really good. The front panel has the 4.5inch FWGA display which looks pretty decent and the colors are pretty ok. Below the display, you have the capacitive touch buttons which offers haptic feedback.

There isn’t exciting about the interface although it does not really look like core Android. The Android version looks more or less like Jelly Bean with the app and widgets tab. XOLO has added useful apps like XOLO Secure and XOLO Power which is handy. The UI looks pretty smooth and does not have any lag in the first test, we will have detailed review on this coming up soon.

The device is priced at Rs 6400 and probably the main downside of this device is the camera which is a fixed focus camera and does not really compete with other offerings from Honor Holly, ASUS Zenfones and the Redmi 1S.

Xolo One does not come with Flip cover, but has a screen guard. Android Lollipop will be coming in couple of months as per the company, no dates mentioned though. Price drop is a possibility, may be around the 6k mark, cant confirm though. One good thing abt Xolo one is that it has 8GB storage when compared to 4GB on Moto E.

I would be inclined to choose XOLO one for design and build, but camera is really bad on XOLO.
