Back in October, Huawei announced the successor of the popular Honor 4X, the Huawei Honor 5X in China. The Honor 5X is a big upgrade from the previous generation and comes with good specs which makes it a decent mid range phone. The new Honor 5X sports a 5.5 inch Full HF (1920 X 1080p) display and is powered by the Snapdragon 616 Octa core 64 bit processor (1.7 GHz Cortex A53 and quad-core 1.2 GHz A53) with either 2GB or 3GB RAM options.

We got a chance to test out the new Honor 5X in China and here is our first impressions of the device.

Here is the quick hands on video of Honor 5X.

Design wise, the Honor 5X looks pretty good with all metal design and also comes in gold variant. The front panel has 5MP camera, sensors, 5.5 inch Full HD display and on screen touch buttons. The left side houses the dual SIM card slots, while the power and volume keys are located on right side. The top houses the 3.5 mm audio jack and secondary microphone. The micro USB charging slot and speaker is located at the bottom panel.

The rear panel has slightly curved finishing and comes with 13MP rear camera, LED flash and a fingerprint scanner located at the bottom of the camera unit. There is also Honor branding at the bottom. Overall, the phone feels good in hands and has good build quality.

The phone has 5.5 inch Full HD display and the colors look pretty vibrant and viewing angles are also good. But the brightness levels were low when we tested the device outdoor. The touch response is also very good. The phone is powered by Snapdragon 616 Octa core processor with 3GB of RAM. There is also a cheaper variant with 2GB RAM.

Honor 5X sports a fingerprint sensor built on Huawei’s latest sensor tech and this allows you to unlock the device in just 0.4s. On the imaging front, the device comes with a 13MP camera with LED flash and a front facing 5MP snapper for selfies.

The phone also comes with 3000mAh battery and has Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with custom EMUI 3.1.

The 2GB RAM variant of the phone will retail for $157 (CNY 999), while the version with 3GB RAM will be available for $220 (CNY 1,399). We expect this device to come to India in the next couple of months.
