Windows 8 Upgrade Options

Microsoft has released the latest version its OS, the Windows 8. As of now you can simply upgrade from Windows 7, XP or Vista to Windows 8 for just $39.99. We had covered in detail, step by step tutorial, on how to upgrade to Windows 8 from previous version of Windows. Based on your existing version of Windows, you can keep your files or apps and even upgrade to Windows 8 Pro. So in case you are planning to upgrade to Windows 8 from your existing installation and not sure what can be retained and what all are the options available, here is a detailed list.

You can upgrade to Windows 8 if you are using

  • Windows 7 Starter
  • Windows 7 Home Basic
  • Windows 7 Home Premium

You can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro if you are using;

  • Windows 7 Starter
  • Windows 7 Home Basic
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Windows 7 Professional
  • Windows 7 Ultimate

You cannot upgrade or keep your Windows settings, personal files, or applications if you are performing a cross-language installation. You can only keep your personal files during a cross-language installation by using Windows 8 Setup.
