Keyboard shortcuts are always handy and below is a list of keyboard shortcuts that can be used in Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer for Windows.

Shortcuts for Firefox;

  • CTRL+D: Add a bookmark.
  • BACKSPACE: Move back.
  • CTRL+B: Open Bookmarks in browser sidebar.
  • CTRL+I: Open Bookmarks in browser sidebar.
  • F7: Toggles Caret Browsing on/off.
  • CTRL+W: Close current tab.
  • CTRL+F4: Close current tab.
  • ALT+F4: Close current window.
  • CTRL+C: Copy.
  • CTRL+X Cut.
  • CTRL+MINUS: Decrease text size within web page.
  • SHIFT+DEL: Delete an individual form.
  • CTRL+J: Launch Download Manager.
  • CTRL+G: Find again.
  • SHIFT+F3: Find previous.
  • F11: Put the current browser window in full screen mode.
  • F1: Launch Firefox Help.
  • CTRL+H: Display your browsing history.
  • ALT+HOME: Load your home page.
  • CTRL+PLUS: Increase text size within web page.
  • F6: Move to next frame.
  • SHIFT+F6: Move to previous frame.
  • CTRL+T: Create a new tab.
  • CTRL+TAB: Make the next tab active.
  • CTRL+N: Open a new browser window.
  • CTRL+O: Launch the Open File dialog.
  • CTRL+ENTER: Open a link in a new tab.
  • CTRL+U: Display the source of the current page.
  • CTRL+V: Paste.
  • CTRL+PAGE UP: Make the previous tab active.
  • CTRL+P: Print.
  • F5: Refresh the current page.
  • CTRL+F5: Refresh the current page, overriding your cache.
  • CTRL+S: Open Save Page As
  • ALT+ENTER: Open Save Link Target As… dialog.
  • CTRL+A: Select all.
  • CTRL+L: Select location bar.
  • CTRL+DOWN ARROW: Select next respective search engine in search bar.
  • CTRL+UP ARROW: Select previous respective search engine in search bar.
  • CTRL+Z: Undo.

Shortcuts for IE;

  • F11: Toggle Full Screen Mode on and off.
  • TAB: Move forward through items on a web page, the Search Box, or the Address box.
  • CTRL+F: Find a word or set of words on a page.
  • CTRL+N: Open the current page in a new window.
  • CTRL+P: Print the current page.
  • CTRL+A: Select all items on the current page.
  • CTRL+PLUS: Zoom in.
  • CTRL+MINUS: Zoom out.
  • CTRL+0 (Zero): Zoom to 100%.
  • ALT+HOME: Go to home page.
  • ALT+LEFT: Go backward.
  • ALT+RIGHT: Go forward.
  • F5: Refresh current page.
  • CTRL+F5: Refresh both the current page and the cache.
  • ESC: Stop downloading current page.
  • CTRL+I: Open Favorites.
  • CTRL+SHIFT+I: Open Favorites in pinned mode.
  • CTRL+B: Organize Favorites.
  • CTRL+D: Add current page to Favorites.
  • CTRL+J: Open Feeds.
  • CTRL+SHIFT+J: Open Feeds in pinned mode.
  • CTRL+H: Open History.
  • CTRL+SHIFT+H: Open History in pinned mode.
  • CTRL+Q: Open Quick Tab view.
  • CTRL+T: Open new tab.
  • CTRL+SHIFT+Q: View list of open tabs.
  • CTRL+TAB: Switch to next open tab.
  • CTRL+SHIFT+TAB: Switch to previous open tab.
  • ALT+D: Select the Address Bar.
  • CTRL+ENTER: Add “http://www.” to the beginning and “.com” to the end of text in the Address Bar.
  • ALT+ENTER: Open the website address that is typed in the Address Bar in a new tab.
  • F4: View a list of previously typed addresses.
  • CTRL+E: Select the Instant Search Box.
  • CTRL+DOWN ARROW: View list of available search providers.
  • ALT+ENTER: Open search results in a new tab.

  • This is awesome I use cad and I know all the short cuts but I never really new all of these thanks…

  • wow ! It’s a big list.. Din’t know many of them.. But you forgot the common address bar shortcuts. Ctrl + Enter –> for .com sites
    Shift + enter –> for .net sites

    just type the name in addr bar and these shortcuts will finn in the other details for you :)

  • Its impossible to know all of them but I know some of the more common ones.
    Most of these shortcuts are pretty much standards and are same in all browsers (Opera’s Keyboard Shortcuts).
    The shortcuts I use most commonly are :

    Ctrl+T : Open in new tab
    Ctrl+Enter : Complete url
    Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V : Select all and copy-paste
    . : Find in Page
    V : Read aloud select text
    Space : One Screen Down

    Aside from keyboard shortcuts I also use mouse gestures quite a lot. It definitely makes life easier.

  • In Firefox, I like CTRL+Shift+S when I want to turn off all the styles that have been applied to a page.

  • aha! shortcuts! I love them a lot and make every possible use of them. the reason for that is, I want to get away with mouse as much as I can :D

  • I really had no idea there were soooo many! I recently switched over to Firefox from IE and am liking it so far. I was let down to discover that it doesn’t remember EVERY login and password (for Blogger for example). But I’ll figure it all out, thanks for the great info!!!
