Ever heard of a Android smartphone for less than $4? Yes, you read it right, the cheapest Android phone in the world has been announced in India for Rs 251 (less than $4). Ringing Bells is a newly formed company in India and they have announced their first smartphone the Freedom 251.
When you hear the word cheapest smartphone, you might get a feeling that it is crippled in the specs department, but Freedom 251 isn’t such a smartphone.
The phone has a 4 inch qHD display and is powered by a 1.3Ghz Quad core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. The phone comes with 3.2MP rear camera and a 0.3MP front facing camera for video calls. There is decent 8GB of storage which is expandable via micro SD card to 32GB.
The phone also comes with quite a few pre-installed apps like Women safety, Swachh Bharat, Medical, WhatsApp and more.
The phone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with 1450mAh battery. Going by the specs, the phone looks like a good device and the pricing is a complete shocker. The company is also providing one year warranty and has 650+ service centers in India.
The Freedom 251 will be officially unveiled in New Delhi on Wednesday and will be presided over by Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, MP, with the Union Defence Minister Sri Manohar Parrikar as the Chief Guest. The phone is being launched as a part of PM Modi’s initiative for Digital India. It focuses on empowering citizens, even in the remotest rural and semi-urban centres of India, with the latest in digital technology at incredible affordable prices.
Booking for the device starts 18th February from 6AM and will ends on 21st February 2016 at 8pm. The deliveries of the device is said to be completed 30th June 2016.
