After the success of Yureka, Yu announced their second smartphone, the Yuphoria couple of weeks back. Yuphoria comes with 5 inch display which has HD resolution (1280 X 720p) with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and it runs on Snapdragon 410 64 bit Quad core processor. The Yureka was powered by Snapdragon 615 Octa core processor and now the company has used Quad core instead on Octa core and this device competes in a different segment and is priced Rs 6999.

There is 2GB DDR3 RAM and the device also comes with 16GB internal storage similar to Yureka. The phone also comes with 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a front facing 5MP camera for selfies and video calls. So how does the camera performs, lets check this out in this post.

Yuphoria

The camera interface is very similar to that available on Yureka and comes with a custom UI from Cyanogen. The interface has few options at the bottom which includes ability to switch to front camera, flash, advanced options which includes exposure, modes, timer and also location.

On the right side you have the option for video, photo and also Panorama. Another useful option in the camera is the ability to change modes by swiping up or down. You can quickly change between auto, HDR, night mode, action and few other modes. Overall interface wise the camera is feature rich and has a good interface.

Daylight Photos:

The daylight photos have decent amount of clarity and the colors also look pretty good. But what is lacking in the daylight captures is the consistency in photos. Some of the shots were over exposed and did not have the best detailing. The HDR shots were pretty good considering the price point. You can also choose from variety of filters available. The color quality of the daylight shots were pretty good. We did encounter focusing issue on this device and it took some time to get the focus right and this happened for close up photos as well.

Close up Shots:

Close up shots taken in daylight had great amount of detailing and the colors were pretty spot on. The phone does add bukeh effect to the close up photos making it look pretty good. The sharpness of the photos were also good considering that this is a budget device.

Low Light Images:

Low light images were not really impressive with the device and they were mostly noisy. Well, we can’t expect a great low light performance with the budget camera. But having said that with good amount of artificial lighting the photos were much better. But the sharpness was not great with night photos and they turned to be blurry. The flash does add good lighting to the low light photos and makes them better. But at the same time there is a slight yellowish tint in photos taken with flash, similar to Lenovo A6000. Here are some of the shots taken with the device.

Front Camera:

The front 5MP camera is decent for selfies and video calls and does a good job. Here are some of the samples.

Video Recording:

The rear camera can record videos in 1080p (Full HD) and the quality was just average. You can check out the video sample below.

Conclusion:

Overall, the Yu Yuphoria’s 8MP rear camera does a decent job with photography and the daylight photos have decent quality as well. But having said that this camera is not class leading or the best in the price point. We would still choose the Redmi 2’s 8MP camera over this camera if you are looking for better photo experience.
