Early this year, Gionee announced the Elife S5.5 which was the slimmest phone then at 5.5mm thickness. We also reviewed the Gionee Elife S5.5 and now we have yet another stunning phone from Gionee, the Elife S5.1 which is just 5.1mm in thickness. Although technically S5.1 is not the slimmest devices now as Oppo R5 is just 4.85mm, it is one of the beautiful devices with a sleek design.

The Elife 5.1 comes with 4.8 inch HD AMOLED display and is powered by a 1.Ghz Octa Core Mediatek processor with 1GB RAM. There is also 16GB on board storage but there is no microSD expansion slot. The phone also comes with Android 4.4 KitKat and has the custom Amigo UI on top of it. The device also has 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 88 degree wide angle 5MP front camera.

Here is the unboxing of the device along with first impressions.

Elife S5.1 has a sleek design and looks gorgeous. The build quality of the device is top notch and feels premium. The device does look similar to iPhone 6 in certain angles. Design wise, the phone has the power and volume keys on the left side, the SIM tray on the right side and the microUSB and 3.5mm audio jack at the bottom.

The rear panel has the 8MP camera with LED flash, Gionee branding and the speakers at the bottom. The front panel houses the 4.8inch AMOLED HD display and above it you have the front camera and the usual set of sensors. Below the display is the three capacitive touch buttons. The white variant we have with us has a golden color finishing around the sides.

The 4.8 inch HD display is vibrant and looks great, the touch response is also great. The performance of the device in the first boot looks impressive without any lag. The UI is also smooth. The phone has 16GB storage and out of which 12.2GB is available to user in two partitions- 2.6 (System) and 9.6 (phone). There is no micro SD card slot and might be an issue for people looking for bigger storage.

The device feels really solid and is very light weight. The camera interface is exactly similar to the one we saw on Elife S5.1 and also the Elife E7. We will have more on camera soon on our YouTube channel.

The phone runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and has the custom Amigo UI on top of it. This UI is similar to the one in Elife S5.1 without an app drawer and arranged in multiple home screens.

We will have the detailed review coming up on our blog soon, meanwhile do check out our YouTube channel for more videos on this device.
