Oppo has announced their latest smartphone in the selfie series, the Oppo F5 in India today. The phone yet another one in the popular F series after the launch of F3 and F3 Plus earlier this year. The Oppo F5 is also the first smartphone from the company with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The device sports a 6-inch Full HD+ display and is powered by MediaTek MT6763T Octa-core processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The highlight of the phone is the 20MP selfie camera with AI beauty technology which Oppo claims to be the first in the world.

The design of the device is quite similar to the previous Oppo devices and has a plastic build. The fingerprint scanner is moved to the back as is has a full view display. The power button is on the right side along with SIM tray while the volume keys are on the left side. The bottom panel houses the micro USB charging slot, speaker unit, and the 3.5mm audio jack. There are no openings or slots on the top. The rear panel houses the 16MP camera and LED flash along with fingerprint scanner and Oppo logo. The front panel has the 6-inch Full HD+ display.

The display on the device is a 6-inch Full HD+ panel with a resolution of 2160 by 1080 and has a TFT-LTPS panel. It is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The display feels quite good and viewing angles are also good. The outdoor visibility is decent even though we feel the brightness could have been a tad better.

The camera unit on the rear is a 16MP shooter with F/1.8 and LED flash. The camera interface is largely unchanged from the previous version and comes with all the modes like photo, beauty, video, panorama and more. The front camera is a 20MP snapper with F/2.0 and it has AI beauty technology. It gives a customized beauty effect, no matter which environment or who you’re taking the Selfie with. It ensures everyone in the picture looks naturally beautiful. The selfies definitely look good and here are some of the samples we have taken (click on the image to enlarge).

The phone is powered by a MediaTek chipset MT6763T, which is an Octa-core processor and coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. Oppo will also be releasing a 6GB RAM and 64GB storage variant at a later stage. We will have to test the device in detail before giving a verdict on the performance. The device has Android 7.1 along with the custom UI called Color OS version 3.2 and it packs a lot of additional tools like themes, dual apps and more.

The device has 3200mAh battery which we feel should last for a day on moderate usage, but unless we do a detailed review we cannot say the exact performance. Oppo F5 is priced Rs 19,999 for the 4GB RAM variant and Rs 24,999 for the 6GB RAM. We will be posting the detailed review later, so stay tuned for that.
