Last week Samsung announced a new series of Galaxy phones after the J series. The company announced two new devices in the On series, the Galaxy On7 and On5. The Samsung Galaxy On5 comes with 5 inch HD display (720P) and is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core Exynos 3475 processor with 1.5GB of RAM.

The phone comes with 8GB internal storage which is expandable via micro SD card. The On5 also comes with an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. Here is the unboxing and first impressions of the device.

Design-wise, the Samsung Galaxy On5 is almost similar to any other Galaxy phone. Samsung has retained the same old design and there is nothing refreshing about the device. The rear panel comes with a faux leather-like finish, but it is made of plastic and has the 8MP rear camera along with LED flash, Samsung branding and speaker unit located near the camera.

The power button is on the right side while the volume keys are placed on the left panel. The bottom panel houses the 3.5mm audio jack and the micro USB charging slot along with the microphone. The rear panel is removable and the dual SIM card along with micro SD card sit inside it. The battery on the device is also removable. The rear panel finishing looks like the one on Note 3. The front panel has the 5 inch HD display, home button and two capacitive buttons which are not backlit. There is also 5MP front camera and sensors. Similar to J5 and J7, the On5 also misses out on the ambient light sensor. Overall, the On5 design does not look inspiring.

The phone comes with 5 inch HD display (1280 X 720p), but unlike the J5, the On5 does not come with AMOLED panel, instead it is a TFT display like the Grand prime. The display looks decent with good colors, but not as vivid as AMOLED display. The touch response seems decent. The On5 comes with an 8 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera that can capture a wide 120-degree angle. You can quickly launch this phone’s camera by double tapping the home button from any screen. We will have the detailed review of the camera, so stay tuned.

The On5 is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core Exynos 3475 processor with 1.5GB of RAM. The performance of the device in the first use was pretty decent with no issues. The device comes with 8GB of storage which is expandable via micro SD card. The phone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with custom Touch wiz UI from Samsung. There is also 4G LTE support on both the SIM card. The battery capacity is at 2600mAh which should be able to power the device for a day.

The device is priced Rs 8,999 and available exclusively on Flipkart. We will have the detailed review coming up on our blog soon, meanwhile do check out our YouTube channel for more videos on this device.
