At the MWC 2014, Microsoft announced two new mid range devices running Windows Phone 8.1, the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640XL. Both these devices were launched in India couple of weeks back. The Lumia 640XL comes with a 5.7 inch HD display (1280 X 720p) with IPS LCD panel and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Quad core processor with 1GB RAM. The storage on the device is at 8GB which is expandable via micro SD card to 128GB.

On the imaging front, there is a 13MP rear camera with flash and Zeiss optics and a front facing 5MP camera for selfies and video calls. The phone also comes with 3000mAh battery. Here is the unboxing of the Lumia 640XL and also the first impressions.

Design wise the device looks a lot like the Lumia 640. With the Lumia 640 and 640XL, the Cyan color makes an comeback to the Lumia series. The color was really popular when the Lumia 800 was first announced by Microsoft. The company has not changed the design language of Lumia series and it comes with power and volume keys on the right side, the 3.5mm audio jack sits on the top and the micro USB is at the bottom. The rear panel has a matte finish (for black variant) and slightly curved towards the edges to give a better grip on the device.

The rear panel houses the 13MP camera with flash, Microsoft logo and also speaker located near the camera.  The front panel has the 5.7 inch HD display, 5MP camera, usual set of sensors. The device does not have capacitive buttons instead they are on screen similar to Lumia 640 and Lumia 730. The device does feel huge as it has a massive 5.7 inch display.

The phone comes with a 5.7 inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 X 720p and has IPS LCD panel. The touch response is very good and so are the viewing angles. There isn’t any change in colors when he display is tilted. The device also comes with clear black technology from Microsoft. The phone comes with dual SIM card and has 3G support. The 4G LTE variant might be coming at a later stage. The phone also comes with 8GB internal storage which is expandable to 128GB via micro SD card.

Here is how the Lumia 640 looks when compared to the massive 640XL.

The phone is powered by Quad core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB RAM. The performance was good on the device and did not have any lags in the first use. There is also 3000mAh battery included in the device which is removable similar to other mid range Lumia devices.

The device is priced Rs 15799 and available in retail stores. We will have the detailed review coming up on our blog soon, meanwhile do check out our YouTube channel for more videos on this device.
