Samsung Launches Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in India

At the MWC 2015, Samsung had announced their flagship phone in the S series, the Samsung Galaxy S6. The previous generation device, the S5 announced in 2014 was not well received and this time Samsung has worked on the design aspect of the device and comes with a refreshed design. Along with the announcement of Galaxy S5, the company also showcased the Galaxy S6 Edge with dual curved display. Both the devices look premium with metal and glass finish. Both the devices are now launched in India.

While the Galaxy S6 has a flat display, metal frame, and glass front and back panels, the S6 Edge has curved edges to the sides of its front and rear glass. The devices sport a 5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED display and comes with Samsung’s Exynos Octa Core Processor with 3GB of RAM.

The device comes with 32, 64, or 128GB of internal storage options. The front and rear panel is protected by Gorilla Glass 4. Both the phones come with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. On the imaging front, there is 16-megapixel f/1.9 cameras with optical image stabilization and can record videos in 4k resolution. There is also 5MP front snapper for selfies and video calls.

There is also a new fingerprint sensor in the home button that no longer requires a swipe; an infrared heart-rate monitor. It also features integrated support for both Qi and PMA wireless charging; fast USB charging that’s 1.5 times faster than the Galaxy S5. The speaker quality is also improved and there is integrated support for Samsung Pay, which uses either NFC or MFT (LoopPay) technology for transactions.

On the battery front, the device comes with non-removable 2550mAh battery (2600mAh on S6 Edge). There is also ultra power saving mode on the devices. With the new flagships Samsung has done away with microSD card support and removable batteries. Both the devices support 4G LTE in India.

Pricing and Availability:

Samsung Galaxy S6 is priced Rs 49,900 (32GB), 55,900 (64GB) and Rs 61,900 (128GB) and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is priced Rs 58,900 (32GB), Rs 64,900 (64GB) and Rs 70,900 (128GB) and will be available in stores starting April 10th. The device is available in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz (Galaxy S6 only) and Green Emerald (Galaxy S6 edge only).
