Xiaomi MiPad was first announced in China last year and it was released as a competitor to Apple iPad Mini. Along with release of Redmi 2, the company also announced the availability of MiPad in India. The MiPad is the first tablet from Xiaomi and it comes with a 7.9-inch (2048 × 1536 pixels) display and is powered by 2.2 GHz NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor with 192-core Kepler GPU. There is 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage available on the tablet.

On the imaging aspect, the device has 8MP rear camera with 5-element lens, Sony BSI sensor, f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP front-facing camera. The tablet runs Android  and has custom MIUI which is optimized for tablets. So here is the unboxing and first impressions of the tablet.

Design wise, the tablet has lot of similarities with the Redmi Note with the curved edges and white glossy rear panel. The tablet has power and volume keys on the right side and they have a chrome finish. The 3.5mm audio jack is on the top and the micro USB charging slot is at the bottom.

The glossy rear panel has the 8MP camera, the Mi logo and the dual speakers located at the bottom. The front panel has the 7.9 inch Full HD IPS display, front 2MP camera, sensors and the three capacitive buttons which are backlit. The overall build quality looks pretty good for a tablet. The tablet is just 9.4mm thin and weighs just 360gms.

The display is a 7.9 inch with 326 pixels per inch (PPI) and a resolution of 2048 x 1536. There is Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on the display and it is vibrant and sharp. The colors look pretty good on the display and the touch response is also very good.

The device is powered by NVIDIA Tegra K1 quad-core 2.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A15 processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. The performance of the device was very good in the initial testing and it is powered by MIUI 6 on top of Android 4.4 KitKat. The tablet also comes with 6700mAh battery which should be good enough for regular usage.

The tablet also comes with 16GB storage out of which there is 12.5GB storage available to the user.

The device is priced Rs 12999 and available on Flipkart from March 24th. We will have the detailed review coming up on our blog soon, meanwhile do check out our YouTube channel for more videos on this device.
