Back in January, Xiaomi had announced the successor of popular budget smartphone Redmi 1S. The Redmi 2 comes with upgraded specs and also support for 4G LTE and this was announced in China. Today, Xiaomi has also announced Redmi 2 in India last week. The new Redmi 2 comes with 4.7 inch (1280 X 720P) IPS HD display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Quad Core processor with 64-bit support and Adreno 305 GPU. The phone comes with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage which is similar to Redmi 1S.

There is dual SIM card support and runs MIUI v6 on top of Android 4.4 KitKat. The internal storage can be expanded via micro SD card upto 32GB. Here is the unboxing of the device with first impressions.

Design wise, the device looks pretty good and a lot similar to the Redmi 1S, with curved back panel all round and has a matte finish. We have the white variant of the device and it feels good in hands. The rear panel has good quality matte finish. The power and volume keys have a silver finish and are located at the right side. The top houses the 3.5mm audio jack and the micro USB charging slot.

The rear panel houses the 8MP rear camera with LED flash, the Mi logo and also the speaker. The front panel houses the display, front camera and also the sensors. The three capacitive touch buttons are located at the bottom of the display.

The phone has a 4.7 inch HD display (1280 X 720p) with 312 pixels per inch (PPI). The display is vibrant and sharp with MIUI 6. The display also has highly shatter and scratch-resistant AGC Dragontrail glass that is known for being incredibly strong despite being very thin and light. The touch response is also very good on the display.

The phone has dual SIM card support with 4G LTE support and also microSD for expanding the storage. There is also 2200mAh battery included which is removable.

The phone is powered by Quad core Snapdragon 410 processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage, out of which close to 4.5GB is available to the user on first boot. You can expand the storage and also install apps directly on the SD card. The performance was good on the device and did not have any lags in the first use. MIUI v6 on top of Android 4.4 provides a smooth experience.

The device is priced Rs 6999 and available on Flipkart from March 24th. We will have the detailed review coming up on our blog soon, meanwhile do check out our YouTube channel for more videos on this device.

You have written that “The phone has a 4.7 inch display” and then in middle “The phone has a 4.5 inch”.

Thanks for pointing out, it was a typo. It is 4.7 inch display.
