At the BUILD conference early this year, Microsoft announced new OEM partners including Karbonn Mobiles from India. Last week Karbonn released their first Windows Phone 8.1 device, the Karbonn Titanium Wind W4 which is also the cheapest Windows Phone device available till date. It packs a 4 inch WVGA display and runs on a Quad core Snapdragon 200 chipset with 512GB of RAM. There is also 4GB internal storage which can be expanded to 32GB via microSD card.

The phone also has a 5MP auto focus camera with LED flash and a front facing camera. The phone comes with 1950mAh battery and support dual SIM card. We got the device which is available on Amazon for Rs 5499 and here is the unboxing and first impressions of the phone.

In the box:

  • Karbonn Titanium Wind W4
  • Earphones
  • USB Cable
  • Charger
  • Warranty and guides
  • Screen guard

Here is the unboxing video.

Design wise there is nothing exciting about this phone and is very similar to other budget phones in this category. The build quality of the device is disappointing as it is made of glossy plastic and feels like made of low quality material. But the good thing is that the device is light in weight, so using the device is comfortable.

The front panel has the 4 inch display which is only WVGA and is a big disappointment as the viewing angles are really poor. Even when you tilt the phone by 20 degrees, the colors on the display changes drastically.

the rear panel houses the 5MP camera with flash and the speakers are placed at the bottom.

The power button is place on the right side while the volume keys are on the left side. Similar to other budget Windows Phones, there is no dedicated camera button.

The phone comes with dual SIM card and also has support for micro SD card.

The performance was pretty good as it comes with a Quad core processor from Snapdragon, but there is only 512MB RAM. We will have a detailed review of the device pretty soon, so stay tuned!

We will also be comparing the device with Lumia 530 from Microsoft.
