HP is the world wide leader in printing solutions and they offers a wide range of printing solutions. HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M476nw is one such printer which is ideal for an office looking for a color laser multifunction printer (MFP) that will easily let employees print from mobile devices and scan to multiple destinations.
There are few interesting features available on this printer which offers printing, scanning, copy and also fax. It can scan your documents and photos to email or a network folder, or a USB thumb drive. If you have documents and photos on your USB drive, you don’t need a computer to print it, the printer can directly print from USB drives.
Design, Build and Features:
The printer has a 3.5-inch color touch screen and has the dimension of 420 x 469 x 500 mm. There are two paper loading trays available split between a 250-sheet tray and a 50-sheet multipurpose feeder. The scanner on the top is equipped with a 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF), can scan both sides of a document simultaneously.
Design wise the printer is pretty compact for the features it offers and the overall design is good. On the security aspect, it comes with password protected printing and also has support for LDAP authentication and authorization.
On the connectivity aspect, the printer can connect via USB or Ethernet plus Wi-Fi and HP Wireless Direct (HP’s proprietary equivalent of Wi-Fi Direct, which is a standard used by many printer manufacturers that allows for a direct wireless connection between the printer and a mobile device without going through a network). It’s also compatible with HP ePrint and Apple AirPrint.
Printing Speed:
The M476nw can handle both color and black prints and the speed is at 20 pages per minute (ppm) which is pretty decent for an MFP. Printing via Wi-Fi or using the USB is also pretty fast. If you are using USB to print documents, make sure the format is PDF as it cannot recognize Word documents. Printing images via USB is also available if the images are in JPEG format. You can use the 3.5 inch display to scroll through the photos and documents.
The warming up time seems to be on a higher side, but once started the printing is pretty fast.
Print Quality:
The overall print quality for the M476nw is very good. For a laser, the MFP’s average text quality is good and this should be pretty good enough for SMBs. The graphics quality is good enough for printing photos and color documents or presentations. Colors are generally bright and well saturated and the overall quality is good.
We tested the color quality with wide range of photos and the overall quality is good. The printer is priced close to Rs 53000 in India.

The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M476nw is overall a good MFP which delivers a great mix of features and also choices like wired and wireless connectivity, and good output quality. This makes it a good choice for a small office or a workgroup looking for an all in one color laser printers with the ability to print from mobile devices and to send scanned documents to multiple destinations.
