LG had announced its first curved and flexible smartphone the LG G Flex in Korea and yesterday it was announced in India as well. G Flex is the world’s first flexible smartphone and it comes with a massive 6 inch display which is HD (720 x 1280 pixels resolution) and is powered by the Snapdragon 800 processor. Spec wise the G Flex is very similar to the LG G2 we reviewed few days back.

There are quite a lot of innovative things with respect to LG G Flex. The first one being the use of plastics for display instead of the traditional glass displays. The G Flex has a 6.0 inch POLED display and the real RGB POLED display yields clear and vivid color for more natural, life like reproduction of all content. The display is flexible and it also has the flexible battery which is again first on a smartphone.

The back cover on LG G Flex is self healing, which means even if you scratch, it will heal in few seconds. The self-healing surface of LG G Flex’s back cover will protect it from scratches that come from daily use, so it maintains a clean, like new appearance.

G Flex has hardware buttons similar to the G2 and is placed at the back. The 13MP camera unit is from the LG G2 but without the OIS which means low light photography might not be great. We are not sure why LG removed it from this flagship. Here is a quick hands on video of LG G Flex:

G Flex can take a load of 40 kgs on the back and it can bend. We tested the flexibility of G Flex and here is a video demo on the same.

One of the disappointing aspects of G Flex is that it comes with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, ideally LG should have provided 4.3. But LG has promised 4.4 Kitkat early next year. Here is another comparison of LG G Flex with LG G2.

Specifications of LG G Flex:

  • Android OS, v4.2.2
  • 6.0 inches, 720 x 1280 pixels,  (~245 ppi pixel density) Curved P-OLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors.
  • 13MP Camera with LED Flash, 2.1MP Front camera
  • 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor
  • 2GB RAM and 32GB Storage
  • Weight: 177 grams
  • Dimensions: 160.5 x 81.6 x 8.7 mm
  • 3500mAh battery

LG G Flex will be available in India in February 2014 and the expected pricing will be INR 60000- 65000 and price will be announced closer to the launch.
