If you have configured multiple blogs on your Windows Live Writer or want to publish post multiple micro blogging services directly from WLW, then you can use xPollinate WLW plugin. xPollinate is a Windows Live Writer plugin that enables you to cross post your blog entries to other blogs, as well as social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook via Ping.FM. You need to have a Ping.FM account and use the API key and it retrieves all your configured networks on Ping.FM.

Once you have installed this WLW plugin, then the option appears inside the Insert Menu on the sidebar. You need to publish the post to cross post it to other blogs or social networks.

With xPollinate, you can cross post full or summarized versions of your entries to any other blogs you have configured in Live Writer. You can also use it to post announcements and full or summarized blog posts to your favorite social networking services like Twitter, Facebook, FriendFeed etc.

Windows Live Planet is a new social networking site from Microsoft. Windows Live Planet is an online destination that allows you to connect with your friends or even chat to your friends online, make new friends and connect with them instantly. Windows Live Planet is similar to most of the other social networks, but is totally different in design and UI. Although there is no official news on the release, Windows Live Planet is linked from MSN India page.

Most of the controls and features are fast. You can invite your friends from other social networks or directly email the invite. The website uses Windows Live Hotmail account, so you don’t have to create a new account.

There is a feature called Scribble Pad which is very similar to Scrap book feature in Orkut (Orkut is very popular social network in India). You can scribble your friends and each scribble can be up to 150 characters in length.

Another good feature is the integration of Windows Live Messenger with the Windows Live Planet service. You can see online friends on the bottom left hand corner of the window and also you can chat with them.

Ping.fm was launched some time in March 2008 and was open only to private beta, which meant you could sign up only with an invite code. But now Ping.fm is out of private beta and open to public for registration.

If you have not used Ping.fm previously, here is a chance to try out of the good service to update multiple networks. The ping.fm dashboard has all the networks supported and you can add your networks. Once you are done with adding networks, you can update your status to these networks at one go.

Facebook is launching its newly designed profile page to users next week. Users can start exploring the new profile during the week of July 14. One of the major changes is that the width of profile page has been increased on either sides. The Application menu has been moved to top and included in navigational menu as a drop down item.

Another major feature is the use of tabs, personal info, boxes, photos etc are arranged in different tabs and switching between tabs is Ajax powered. With this navigating through profiles is much more faster. Users have the provision to add new tabs.

Recently Orkut had added support to applications like other social networks. One of the applications in Orkut is the SMS Me. This application allows you to send unlimited free SMS to any mobile phone in India and all you need is to verify your mobile number. Your mobile number will be displayed in the SMS. You can access the application from here or you can search for SMS Me application.

Add the application to your profile and start sending SMS. Another feature of this application is that you can SMS your Orkut friends, but for this your friends should also be using this application.

Facebook has various options to show your friends like Online now, Recently updated, Recently added etc. All these shows friends in on default layout. You can also see all your friends in thumbnails previews. To see friends in thumbnail previews, click on the friends link in the main menu. In the friends list select the more tab. Once the more tab is selected, a dropdown is visible where you can sort the friends list.

Now select the option ‘—’ and you can see all your friends in thumbnail previews.

Status updates in Facebook are like any other status in IMs or other social networks. This helps your friends to know what you are doing or planning. Privacy is one thing which everyone would like to see in any social networks or photo sharing sites. Facebook also has privacy options to protect your personal photos, so that it can be viewed by only you or people selected by you. This is important especially because of the fact that there is lot of hacking going on in these social sites.

To enable privacy on your photos, click on the Privacy link on the top right corner of your account. In the privacy options, select Profile. In the options for profile, select customize from the drop down list for “Photos Tagged of You”.

In the customize menu, you can set privacy for the photos uploaded by you. Permissions can be friends, friends of friends, some friends (custom list) or only me. You can also restrict particular individuals or groups from seeing the photos.

With this feature, you can easily set permissions on your personal photos.
