When the antivirus is installed, it validates whether the copy of Windows running is genuine or not. The application will be available in 32- and 64-bit flavors. If you have Windows Defender working on your PC, then MSE will uninstall Windows Defender, as MSE is a superset of Defender.

Microsoft Security Essentials adds antivirus protection—both real-time protection and on-demand scanning. It shares the same engine and signatures as other Microsoft antimalware products, including the enterprise-focused Forefront and the monthly Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Microsoft says the program is Windows Logo Certified and updates its virus and spyware signatures daily through Microsoft Update. New signatures are published three times a day, which means that clients will never get a new update that is less than eight hours old.

Experts say that the Microsoft’s free product is basically a stripped down version of the OneCare product Microsoft and intended for low end users. From the screenshots which are available now it looks like a simple product with UI in tune with Windows 7. The UI is made very simple and easy to use.

We will have to wait and see what all features Morro has to offer to beat the competition.

In the settings page, you can configure the plugin such that it does a daily anti virus scan and sends an email if any suspicions are found. You can also do a manually scan of the templates and this plugin will show any infections.

Kaspersky Lab’s suite of security offerings will be available to Windows 7 users immediately following the launch of the new operating system.

The new version for Windows 7 is designed based on the feedback it received regarding the speed, reliability and stability of its Windows 7 protection.
