How to Access Yahoo Mail Inside Orkut

Ever since Orkut has started supporting applications, there has been some new useful applications. One such application is to check Yahoo mail from Orkut. This application uses the mobile version of Yahoo mail to access mails, so the application is very fast as there is minimum UI. With this application, users can send and receive Yahoo mail inside Orkut.

Install the application and then open the application page to login to Yahoo mail. In case you are using Gmail, read this article to find out how to access Gmail inside Orkut.

With the introduction of Orkut Apps,we can see many useful applications being developed. Here is one application I’m sure all Orkut users would love to add to their Orkut Profile- Gmail inside Orkut. With this application, you can check your mails in Gmail account right inside Orkut. This application was developed by an Orkuteer Prashant.

This application is not yet available in Orkut Directory, but if you have Orkut Sandbox access, you can check out the application. The application is very neat and well arranged inside Orkut and I feel we can soon see it in Orkut Apps Directory. You can apply for a sandbox account here.

Orkut Adds Drag and Drop to Customize Profile

Orkut has been improving in its features in the last few months and also announced support for Themes recently. Today Orkut has announced drag and drop feature to customize your profile. With this feature, now you can change the positions of various page elements like videos, testimonials, photos etc and re-organize them the way you want your profile visitors to view them.

You don’t have to save the layout after rearranging it as the layout of your profile page will automatically be saved.

Apart from this users can also put as many or as few applications on the profile as you want. Until now, users were able to display up to three applications on the profile.

How to Create your own Orkut Theme

Orkut has officially added support to theme recently, but there are only a few themes to chose from and also these themes are available only for users from India. If you are using Firefox and Greasemonkey scripts, then you can create your own theme in seconds. Here is how to create Orkut Themes.

1. Navigate to this site.

2. Enter the url of a valid image, make sure that you select a good picture as your background. Also check that it has enough width, otherwise the image get repeated. Click Submit once you have entered the url.

3. Next step you get a link “Install Theme”. Firefox shows a popup to confirm the installation of the script.

Make sure that Greasemonkey script is enabled on your browser. In case you are using Firefox 3, get the Greasemonkey from here.

4. Open Orkut and you can see the theme in action.

For better result I suggest you to design you background image.

How to Get Different Orkut Theme for Each New Page

Orkut had recently announced the support for themes. Currently there are only few themes to select from, but you can always customize theme by downloading free themes and using Firefox and GreaseMonkey scripts. Here is a cool script which can give you different themes for each new page you select in Orkut. This means themes will be loaded randomly for each page in Orkut. This script will work only for Firefox users with Greasemonkey scripts installed.

Steps to get different themes on each page

1. Download an install Greasemonkey script Firefox.
2. Install the Random Orkut themes Usescript.
3. Thats it, now if you navigate to any page in Orkut, each page will have new random theme.

There are totally 10 themes in the Random list. I tried this userscript and it worked like a charm. So what are you waiting for, try out new themes on each page.

Recently Orkut had added support to applications like other social networks. One of the applications in Orkut is the SMS Me. This application allows you to send unlimited free SMS to any mobile phone in India and all you need is to verify your mobile number. Your mobile number will be displayed in the SMS. You can access the application from here or you can search for SMS Me application.

Add the application to your profile and start sending SMS. Another feature of this application is that you can SMS your Orkut friends, but for this your friends should also be using this application.

Orkut to Get a New Look- True Blue Simplicity

Orkut’s official blog reports a new look for Orkut. The new look will be available to groups of users at a time over the next week. The old color has been retained and the major change is only the rounded corners and new icons.

Orkut is currently one of the biggest social networks and it was recently voted MTV Youth Icon of India.

So what do you think about the new design? I feel its just an average redesign and still no features to change themes.

Orkut Verifying E-mail Frequently

I have been seeing this message too frequently on Orkut and I have already verified my e-mail 3 times in the past week. I guess this is part of removing spammers from all Google services. Recently, Google has been blocking few Gmail and Blogger IDs which they believe are spammers. Unfortunately one of my friend got tagged as spam. Google is also removing objectionable content from blogs as reported by Amit.

I think this a good move by Google and lets hope that Orkut stays beautiful.

Orkut adds Polls in communities

Google has added a new feature to Orkut, Community Polls. Now all Orkut users can create and post polls in any community that they are a member of. The poll options can have pictures also which can be added while creating a poll. A poll once created can only be deleted and not edited and also owners or moderators can delete the polls.

Users can vote for a particular poll depending upon whether the poll is allowed for all users or only for the community members. Users can also choose to have their votes public or anonymous.
