Resumes are very important aspect in our professional life as they show our backgrounds and skills. Whether you are a student looking for your first job or an experienced professional, a resume is one of the most important things to take care when you apply for a new job. Resume are also categorized based on the area where you are applying. If you are looking to create a new resume, you can easily get started with a professional resume using Word 2013.

To start creating your resume, open Word 2013 and from the main screen, click on the Resume link available on the top. You can also search for Resume in the online templates.

Word will list out all the online templates available and in various categories. You can browse through them and read more about the resume by clicking on them.

Once you have selected the template, you can click Create button and the template is downloaded. You will need an Internet connection to download it. There is no payment required as these resumes are free to download.

Once the download is complete, Word will populate a new document with the template. You can now start modifying it to your data.

There are hundreds of free templates available, so you can customize it to your own needs.

There are many features which has been retained in the new version as well. When you share documents which are confidential in nature or documents which are copyrighted, it is always good to have them watermarked. Similar to image watermarking when you share online, you can also watermark Word 2013 documents.

You can either add image watermark or a text watermark in Word 2013 documents and we will explain how to add it.

Open Word 2013 document, either an existing document or a new one and then select the Design Tab. On the right side of this tab, you can see the Watermark option. Click on it and you can see the default options to watermark. Select any one and the watermark is instantly applied on the document.

You can also add a custom watermark and for this select the Option Custom Watermark from the list. This will open a new pop up window where you can select the type of watermark. You can either specify an image watermark.

If you have selected image watermark, you can browse for the image from local hard disk or from SkyDrive and insert it. You can also scale it based on your requirement.

If you have selected text watermark, you can select the language and set the text, font, size, color, layout etc. Once you have applied, you can see it live on the document. If you are using image watermark, make sure that the image has good size or else it will extend to the entire document and will not look good.

So next time you share a confidential document, make sure you have this option selected.

With the release of Office 2013, there are many features which are made for tablet devices. Outlook 2013 also features the ability to restrict usage based on metered connection. This means if you are using Outlook 2013 on a metered connection, Outlook will not Send and Receive automatically. You will have to do it manually and this will save bandwidth on your connection.

You will see an warning when you open Outlook 2013 that you are currently browsing on metered connection. You can make it to connect always or ignore the warning and manually connect Outlook 2013 to Internet.

Now if you want to remove the current connection as a metered one, then go the Networks by clicking the network icon and then right click on the connection and select Set as non-metered connection.

Once you have done this, Outlook will not show you the warning about metered connection.

Note: Metered connection is generally automatically set by Windows if you are using a mobile data plan like 4G LTE, 3G or EDGE.

1. Xobni:

2. FBLook:

3. Outlook Sync

Just like previous version, Outlook 2013 also allows you to create your own personalized email signature. To start creating your email signature, open the File Menu on the top and select options from the list.

Now select the Mail tab from the left sidebar and then click on the signatures button available. This will open the signature settings. You can create multiple signatures here and use them based on your email account listed.

There is also option to add some basic formatting along with links and images. Once you have done with the editing, click OK and the signature will be saved and will be available for all the new emails you create.

If you are using a Exchange account and still does not have this feature, you need to check with your administrator.

So in case you want to recover deleted emails from Outlook 2013, select the email account and click on the Folder tab. Under the folder tab, you can see “Recover Deleted Items” option under the clean up sub group.

Please note, this option is available only for Microsoft Exchange accounts and if you have configured Gmail on Outlook, you might not see this option.

Once you select this, it will prompt a new window where it will display the list of deleted emails and you can selectively recover them. Recovered emails will be available in the folder from where they are deleted.

Note: Your Exchange administrator specifies the retention time for deleted items. After this time elapses, deleted items cannot be restored.

Office on Demand is a feature that provides online access to full rich Office desktop applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, when you’re using a PC that doesn’t have the latest version of Office installed locally. Office on Demand is available to anyone who has an Office 365 subscription that includes the Office application suite. Office on Demand is a helpful option if you want to use your Office applications on an additional device or on a device that you don’t own, such as when you’re logged in as a guest using someone else’s computer.

So how do you get started with Office on Demand? You need to have a subscription to Office 2013 Home Premium. Login to Office.com and go to the tab My Office. You can see the option Office on Demand listed at the bottom. You will need to login with your account which is associated with the subscription.

Select any of the application to open on demand. You can select from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Publisher. When you select the option, based on the browser you are using you get a prompt to install add-on or extension.

Once installed, Office will start streaming based on your internet connection speed. You need a Internet with a pretty good speed to stream it online.

When you use Office on Demand, the applications are streamed to the PC you’re using as you need them. Office on Demand doesn’t get installed. There’s no offline access to Office on Demand and there won’t be any shortcuts or typical signs of installation left on the computer. If you use Office on Demand repeatedly on the same device, you’ll notice that performance improves over time. That’s because your computer caches applications that you’ve previously used. If at some point you want to remove all of the Office on Demand performance cache, simply uninstall the Office on Demand add-in using your Programs and Features option from the Control Panel. Office on Demand is available from the Quick Launch panel within your SkyDrive library.

Office 2013 has two options in terms of look and feel of the product and apps. First is Office background and the second one is Office Theme. To change these options, Click on the File tab and select Account from the Office backstage options. Here you will see the two options.

A background, like the Spring background on a dark gray theme below, adds a little interest to the top right corner of your Office 2013 programs.

Once you change the background, every computer connected to your Office Account will use the same background.

If you’d like a little variety, you can change the color scheme (called as theme) for your Office programs.

If you have Office programs on other computers connected to your account, they’ll all use the theme you picked. But in case you want to use the theme only on this computer, then you need to use the options. Click File > Options and Under Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office, choose an Office Theme. Only the Office programs on this computer will use the theme.
