How to Revoke Access to Third Party Applications in Flickr

Flickr is one of the most used photo sharing platforms and we have lots of third party applications developed to make Flickr use better. These applications need to access your Flickr account for getting your photos and you need to provide access to them. In case you are not using the application anymore, you can revoke access to these application for security reasons as some of these services also have permission to delete photos.

1. To revoke access to these application, log into your Flickr account and then navigate to this page.

2. Here you can see the list of all the services using your Flickr account with the current permissions.

3. Click on “Remove Permissions” link and this will revoke access to the particular application using your Flickr account.

How to Revoke Access to Applications using your Twitter Account

There are thousands of applications both web based and desktop based, for Twitter. We can see new applications being created daily based on Twitter. Most of these applications need authorization to access your Twitter account. With these many applications, it is difficult to say which one is legitimate and which are fake ones. We have already seen some applications used to spam Twitter accounts. In case you have authorized to use your Twitter account for any of these applications, you can always revoke access to these applications.

1. To Revoke access login to your Twitter account, go to settings.

2. In the settings page, select the connections tab.

3. Here you can see the lists of all applications currently using your profile. Below each application, you can see a link called Revoke Access. Click on it to revoke access to your Twitter account.

Once you have revoked access to applications, it is better to change your password of Twitter account.

Configure Push Gmail for Windows Mobile

If you are using Windows Live Hotmail, you might be knowing that you can have push email on Windows Mobile. Google has now enabled push email for Windows Mobile users using Active sync. You can set up Active Sync on your Windows Mobile to enable push email for Gmail. Using Google Sync, you can synchronize the built-in Mail, Calendar and Contacts apps on your Windows Mobile device with your Google account. To set up push email on Windows Mobile, follow the below steps.

1. Open Active Sync on your Windows Mobile from the programs.

2. Click the link “Set up your device to sync with it”.

3. Enter your Google email ID and click next.

4. In the server address, enter m.google.com and click next. Check the box against “This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection”.

5. In the next step, enter your login credentials, leave the domain blank, but in case it is not allowing without entering domain, you can enter it as google.

6. Next, choose the data you want to synchronize.

7. That’s it, Active Sync will try to synchronize Gmail with your Windows Mobile.

If you are using Google Apps, your administrator will first need to enable ActiveSync before you can take advantage of this feature.

Install and Configure Windows Live Mail on Windows 7

Windows Live Mail is a desktop email client which comes with Windows Live Essential suite of applications. Windows Live Mail is free email client which allows you to access your email using POP or IMAP. You can download Windows Live Mail from Windows Live Essential site. You will need to download the web setup of Live essentials and then install Windows Live Mail from the set up. You can download the Live Essential web set up from here. Once it is installed, you can start Windows Live Mail by typing it in the start menu or use the All programs menu.

When you are using Live Mail for the first time, it will ask you to configure email accounts. You need to enter your email ID and password.

If you have a Hotmail or Live ID, then you only need to enter the email and password, rest all configurations are done by the application. In case you are using Gmail or Google Apps account, you need to manually enter the POP or IMAP settings.

If you are using Hotmail or Live ID, the application will ask you to download the folders from Hotmail or Live account. This notification is shown on the top bar of the application.

Once the folders are downloaded, all you emails from Hotmail or Live ID will be available in Windows Live Mail. If you want to change or add new Hotmail or Live ID, you can do it easily by logging in on the top right corner of the application.

Now you can start using Windows Live Mail to sent and receive all you emails.

How to Disable or Uninstall Window Live Family Safety

Windows Live Family Safety (FSS is a free product from Microsoft, for enabling parental controls in Windows and it comes with Windows Live Essentials Suite. Its features allows users to set guidelines and restrictions for children surfing on the internet and allows parents to monitor their children’s web activities. Now if you have installed all the programs while installing Windows Live, Family safety will be enabled and it might cause error while opening some sites as the default setting is basic mode.

If you do not want to remove Family safety, you can log into the online service and change the settings. But if you are the only user accessing the PC, these settings might be annoying. You can either disable Family safety or uninstall Family safety using the steps below.

1. Disable Family Safety- To disable family safety service and also to stop from start up items, Click Start=> Run and type services.msc and click enter. This opens up the services under in Windows. Here you can see and entry by name “Windows Live Family Safety” which is enabled by default and loads at start up.

Select Startup Type as Disabled and also Stop the service in case it is already running. Click OK and apply the settings. This will disable Family safety unless you manually start the service.

2. Uninstall Family Safety: – If you are the only person using the PC, then it might make sense uninstalling the application which comes bundled with Windows Live Suite. Open Programs and Features (Control Panel=> All Control Panel Items => Programs and Features) and click on the Windows Live essentials and select Uninstall.

Click Continue and in the next Window, select Family Safety and then continue.

This will uninstall Family Safety from your computer.

Bing, Microsoft’s new decision search engine is gaining popularity ever since it was launched. We have already covered on how to add your website to Bing using webmasters and get more traffic. You can also create a Bing search box for your blog and this helps visitors to search your blog. Bing Search Box called as Bing Box provides a fast, customizable search solution for your website or blog. Visitors to your site can search the entire Web, just your site, or any sites that you choose.

To create a search box for your blog/ website, navigate to Bing box site owners page. Select the advanced search box page and here you need to specify the site details. You can also search with an existing Search Macro .

In the next step you can customize the looks of the search box including the display color, language and size. Once you have created, you can add the code to your website or blog. You can also preview the search box before adding the code.

How to Submit your Website to Bing

Microsoft’s new decision search engine, Bing which was released this week is already in discussion. Many webmasters have claimed that they have started getting good traffic from Bing. You can submit your website or blog to Bing and start getting traffic from Bing. Once you submit your website, you will need to verify it. This feature is available in Bing’s webmasters tool which can be accessed from the extra menu at the top right hand corner.

How to Add Website/ blog to Bing:

1. Navigate to this URL if you want to submit your website to Bing. You will need to sign in with your Windows Live ID to access the webmaster center.

2. Enter the website URL and also sitemap URL (sitemap is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended to add one).

3. Next step is to verify your website and this can be done either with XML verification or HTML meta tag verification. You can get more details from the help center.

4. Once your website or blog is validated, you can see the complete details of the website submitted like number of URLs indexed, any issues with the crawling etc.

The webmasters tool allows you to check crawl issues, back links, outbound links and also sitemap.

How to Enable/Disable Turbo in Opera 10

Opera 10 Beta version has been released and it comes with new features and one of the important update in this version is the turbo mode. Turbo mode in Opera 10 increases your internet bandwidth speed on slow connections using data and image compression technologies. This feature uses Opera proxy servers to compress the traffic before it reaches the Opera browser installed in any PC.

This turbo feature can be configured on your Opera and to do this, right click on the bottom left corner icon and select configure Opera Turbo.

In the configure box, you can set the mode of turbo. It can be configured to be automatic, On or off.

Automatic: Turbo will enable only if it detects a slow network
On: Optimize pages with Turbo so they load faster on slow networks
Off : Load pages normally
Notify me about network speed: Network speed indicator becomes visible within the Opera Turbo icon on the Status Bar

Bing Detailed User Guide

Bing is one of the hot topics since its launch last week and it is now open to public. We have already covered on how to add Bing Search connector to Windows 7. Bing is defined as the decision engine rather than a normal search engine. This article is aimed at getting the best out of Bing search and we are discussing almost all features available in Bing presently. Currently not all features are available outside US, so incase you want to get the complete features navigate to this page and select United States – English as your location.

1. Bing Search

There are different tabs available in the home page like images, videos, shopping, maps etc on the left hand side (this might be on top for regional pages). In the search result, against each page, there is a hover item on the right side which gives more information about the page available in the result.

On the left hand side of the search, you can actually see the news search, related searches and also the search history. Search history is one good feature by which you can track all your search keywords. You can also turn off this feature in preferences.

2. Advanced Search

Apart from this, there is also advanced search which can be done for a domain, language and country.

3. Image Search

Image search in Bing is also improved and has some good features. To do image search, click on the Images link and enter the keyword. You can filter the search result based on Size, Layout, Color, Style and People.

4. Video Search

Similar to image search, video search is also improved. The left hand panel on video search can be used to filter videos based on length, screen size, resolution and source. When you hover over any video, it plays the videos inside the search itself. With this feature you can actually view the video even if the video site is blocked or not available in your region.

5. Save and Share Search

Save & share is another good feature in Bing, but its optional and you must opt-in to use it. Currently only users with Microsoft Silverlight have access to this feature. With this feature, you can save your search results to Windows Live Skydrive or share with Facebook friends or email.

Apart from these features, you can customize the search result in preferences and also set up your cashback account. This can be accessed using the extras link on the top right hand corner.

6. RSS feeds

If you want to get the RSS feed of any search result, there is actually no direct way to get it, but you can subscribe to the RSS feed of any search by appending &format=rss to the search result URL.

7. Bing Shopping

Bing Shopping allows you to decide on the best available offer for any products. The shopping search shows the best prices along with the Cash back offer available on the products.

8. Bing Travel

Bing Travel search will help you to find the cheapest air tickets and also hotel accommodations.

Finally you can also join Bing Community and have communications and discussions with other members of the community. You can also access different blog related to Bing communities.

How to Increase Number of Tabs in Opera Mobile

Opera Mobile 9.5 released last year is provides great browsing experience on mobile phones. This interface is similar to the one for desktops. By default Opera Mobile can only support up to 3 tabs for browsing. This can be annoying for many people who use mobile to do most of the Internet usage. The number of tabs available on Opera Mobile can be increased by modifying the config file.

1. Type Opera:Config in the URL and click enter. You can see the Preference editor for Opera Mobile.

2. Type “Maximum Allowed Tabs” in the search box and click enter. Here you can enter the value for number of tabs you would like to have.

3. Click save and then restart Opera Mobile. Now you can start browsing on Opera with more tabs.

Note that this opera:config setting does not work in Opera for desktop.
