With internet penetration increasing across the world, we have new technologies coming up everyday which promises high speed and lightning fast connections. Not all countries in the World have high speed internet connection, but most of them are connected. Akamai, the world’s largest CDN (content delivery network) has released its latest State of the Internet report with some stats on Internet speeds across various cities. Below are the top 100 cities with the best Internet speeds.
One thing rather surprising is that no US city comes in the top 50 list of best connected cities.
The report has many interesting aspects about the Internet penetration and speeds across the World. As far as India is concerned, the average speed is 0.9Mbps for the year ending 2011. The report also says that 25% of the internet population in India is below 256Kbps, this comes as no surprise as broadband in India mean 256Kbps and higher.
The report also mentions that only 0.5% of the population works on 5Mbps or more.
