We were out of blogging for past one week due to some personal reasons. Now we are back to blogging and regular updates will happen from today onwards. Last week, there were lots of interesting releases, updates and news coming in. We are covering the updates that happened in the last week in this post. Some of the major updates are the release of WordPress 2.8, Apple’s release of Safari 4 which is claimed to be the fastest browser.
1. WordPress 2.8 Baker released with improvements to themes, widgets, taxonomies, and overall speed. In 2.8 you can now browse the entire theme directory and install a theme with one click from the comfort of your WordPress dashboard. Editing or tweaking themes or plugins from your dashboard is more easier now with new CodePress editor which gives syntax highlighting to the previously-plain editor.
2. Apple releases the final version of Safari 4 which is claimed to be the fastest browser. Apple claims that the Safari has the world’s most advanced browser technologies including the new Nitro JavaScript engine that executes JavaScript nearly eight times faster than IE 8 and more than four times faster than Firefox 3.
3. Europe will get Windows 7 without IE8. Microsoft plans to remove Internet Explorer from the versions of Windows 7 that it ships in Europe as noted by CNET. The browser-less versions, dubbed Windows 7 "E", will be distributed in all members of the European Economic Area as well as Croatia and Switzerland. This has happened after the EU antitrust complaint against Microsoft.
4. Facebook launches username for URL. Facebook has launched the new feature where in you can select the desired username as profile URL instead of the ID which was used previously. To get your desired username, navigate to this URL and select the username.
5. Opera Mobile 9.7 Beta is released. Opera has released a new beta version of Opera Mobile for Windows Mobile and Symbian handsets. This new version features the turbo engine which was included in the recently released Opera 10. You can download Opera Mobile 9.7 from here.
