The Windows Live team has announced that POP3 access is made available Hotmail users in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands. For other countries, POP3 access would be rolled out later this year. Meanwhile you can start accessing Hotmail on your mobile phone or PC using any e-mail software program installed on PC or Mobile Phone.

How to Set up POP3 for Hotmail on Mobile/PC (Settings);

POP server: pop3.live.com
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example yourname@hotmail.com
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes

For people who have not got POP3 access, can use Hotmail on desktop using Windows Live Mail or Outlook Connector.
