Kaspersky Lab, the developer of popular anti-virus for Windows has released a technical preview of the latest anti-virus for Windows 7. The technical preview is a complex solution for securing computers running under Windows 7. The prototype includes not only an antivirus component but an effective and fully functional firewall and anti-spam filter. Windows 7 Beta is expected to be released within a week or so.

The new technical prototype is Kaspersky Lab’s new antivirus engine which is even more effective at detecting malicious programs than its predecessor. The new engine dramatically increases system scanning speed thanks to improved processing of objects and optimized use of system resources, particularly on dual- and quad-core processor platforms. The unique product architecture ensures high productivity and one of the lowest uses of system resources in the industry.
The technical preview includes a highly effective heuristic analyzer. The heuristic analyzer detects and blocks as yet unknown malicious programs. If a program signature is not included in the antivirus databases, i.e., the malicious program is unknown, the heuristic analyzer will safely launch the program in an isolated virtual environment, analyze the program’s actions and conclude with a high degree of probability whether it is potentially harmful before it is launched in a live environment.
With the Windows 7 beta around the corner, this would be a great application to test Kaspersky on Windows 7.

That would be a great addition for windows7 . . .AVG has a similar offer for windows7 too…windows recommends only these two on their alerts page.
Wow .. this sounds cool… Windows 7 will really rock i think
Kaspersky making an efficient (read NOT SLOW) AV? I have my doubts.
Great detection sure, but Kaspersky has always been a let down speed and compatibility wise.
I am using it now for a couple of days.
System keeps it’s speed, only CPU gets rather high at times, as usually with Kaspersky.
But overall I find the whole system together, windows 7 and Kaspersky a great improvement on the NTFS platform.
And believe me, I torment my systems, the way testing should be.
I too have Kaspersky AV 8.0.0.1081 on Windows 7. I’m not running a multi-core CPU, but you’d think that a system with a P4 2.66 GHz CPU and 2GB of RAM would be enough to keep AVP.exe from eating at my CPU usage. I’m holding around 80% to 100% while running AVP. Without it, I’m at 2-12%. Apps take a little longer to load, web pages also lag a moment longer, but overall It does its job. It’s also sucking about 250 MB of my physical memory usage. According to the closed post on Kaspersky AVs forum, ” …it’s a beta, so such things are to be expected”. You’d think a drastic thing like excessive CPU usage would be noted for an application that uses the quote: “The unique product architecture ensures high productivity and one of the lowest uses of system resources in the industry.” Just my personal opinion.
Do not let your guards down! I bought Kaspersky in 9/2009. In a month or two, it did not detect viruses twice already – Malewarebytes did. No, I am not selling Malewarebytes
And do not belive those who state that all virus software, by its nature, has to be slow. I used to run McAfee and Zonealarm and had no “100% CPU usage” problems (like I do at this moment)
