In the event of the 10th Birthday celebration, Google has brought back the search engine which was in place in January 2001. This offer users a chance to search an older index as a way of looking back at web history, and index is of January 2001. Google has set up a new page with the old logo to experience the 2001 search index.

The search page return many of the webpages from 2001 index as result and you will be able to see the archived pages with the help of Internet archive. If the pages are removed from the index based on request, then it wont show up in the results. The 2001 home page also has a link to the current search page.

Another feature of 2001 search page is that ads are not displayed here and this 2001 search page will be only available for a month. Google says that this information is not 100% accurate as many pages might have been moved since 2001. For more details check out the 2001 search page FAQ.

    I searched for PAVAN KUMAR from both the indices, the results found on that old engine are almost absent on the latest one… And in the latest, I rank 4th…

    At least this shows that there was nothing like SEO or Search Engine Optimization in 2001. And some companies claim that they handled SEO things since 1990’s.. LOL
