We install lot of softwares on our PC without knowing some of these can cause hackers to perform actions, which have a security impact on your computer because of the error/flaw in the software. The Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI) is the FREE security tool that is designed with the sole purpose of helping you secure your computer from software vulnerabilities.

Secunia collects, evaluates, verifies, and analyses security information from public mailing lists, security and vendor websites, coordinated vulnerability reports, and internal research. Secunia PSI can scan all the installed applications on the PC to determine which programs are missing security patches/updates. The tool works by by examining files on your computer mainly the .exe, .dll, and .ocx files for meta information on specific software builds installed.

After examining all the files on the machine, the collected data is sent to Secunia’s servers and matched against the Secunia File Signatures engine determine the exact applications installed on your system. It can be used to flag insecure software and find direct download links to missing security updates.

Secunia PSI is available as a freeware for personal use.
