Weekend Trip to Venice of the East
As last weekend was long weekend (due to some holiday on Monday), we decided to visit Venice of East- Alleppey and spent a day in house boat. Alleppey is surrounded by one of the largest backwaters in India- the Vembanad Lake. Vembanad Lake covers almost above 1500 sq km and we just covered a small portion of the lake. We started our journey at 11.30 AM. The breath taking sceneries of the Venbanad Lake surrounded by lands covering coconut trees was a treat for eyes.
Alleppey has over 2100 house boats of various sizes and categories. Most of them are fully equipped with 2 bedrooms, kitchen and a hall. The bedrooms are air-conditioned. The houseboat we hired was a 2 bedroom one with well equipped kitchen and all facilities. Below are few photos of the trip.

It was a wonderful trip and we stayed in the boat in the night. The boat berthed back to shore in the morning 9.00 AM.
