Get Feed of Unread Messages & Labels in Gmail
Gmail has a great feature of offering feed for unread messages, which is currently not available in any webmail. This feature lets you to subscribe to RSS feeds of your Inbox. For using this service, you would need to use is http://mail.google.com/mail/feed/atom and the feed reader will need authentication. This wont work in Google Reader, but desktop readers like FeedDemon will support authentication.
Another feature of this feed is that you can subscribe to feeds of any label created in your Gmail account. To Subscribe to feeds of any label,
http://mail.google.com/mail/feed/atom/LABELNAME/
You need to change LABELNAME in the url with the name of the label in your mail box. This is also useful for browser feed reader like Firefox live bookmarks and Opera feed reader.

It needs authentication… That’s the main minus point that you cannot make use of other services to monitor your mail anywhere anytime.

I’d stumbled upon this tip on GOS before.
I think you forgot to mention to use ‘unread’ in place of label, to view unread mails.
Coincidentally, I’m using FeedDemon too - quite powerful, though not as mobile as GReader.
Update: It shows all the mails, including those that are filtered and archived. Which means, this is a big no-no for me

Obviously, mail service should require authentication.

If I was in an Office, it would be a cool trick.
Most of the people wouldn’t have a clue that I’m checking my personal stuffs - mails and feeds. Bliss.

But in some offices emails are blocked so you may not be able to fetch feeds also.
