Internet Explorer 8 Beta First Impressions

Microsoft has made available the beta version of the new Internet Explorer (IE8) 2 days back. I downloaded IE8 as soon as the links were available for download. The features list shows some new additions to the existing IE. After installing IE8 on my PC, first thing I did was to open my blog in it.

First looks shows that there are few alignment issues on my blog, but these are only few when compared to totally messed up designs on few popular websites.

Few clicks on the links and I soon got this error message. This is the same message of Send Error Report in XP.

Soon after closing IE, it quickly restored the open tabs and gave a message that tabs have been restored. Well this is a new feature added to IE8- Automatic Crash Recovery (ACR). I feel Microsoft seems to be testing this feature as my IE8 was crashing frequently in Vista (I have downloaded the Vista version).

There is an Emulate IE7 mode if you want to go back to IE7, this is good since some websites are not properly aligned in IE8. Since this is a beta version, there are lots of errors bound to happen.

Did you try the new IE8? Share your experiences.

  2. @Atof,
Waiting to hear from you on XP. Well the beat version will definitely have problems, remember when Apple released Safari for Windows.

  3. See - I told you IE8 was bound to be a buggy beta. Oh, wait, I said that in ReviewSaurus :D

I’m holding back until they progress some more. Meanwhile, do you know whether an IE6-proof site(mine) will have any problems in IE8? In case you can, just give my site a glance on IE8 and tell me - I’d appreciate it.

  4. @Sumesh,
I’ll let you know of the alignment issues, if any on your blog.

  5. I tried IE8 on XP SP2 and I noticed frequent browser crashing which was very irritating. Perhaps, it may get resolved once the stable version is released.

  6. @Rakshit,
Crashes are bound to happen in beta versions. Lets wait for a stable one.

  7. My site was also appearing messed up in it. Hope the final version will be better.

  8. @Madhur,
Since IE is now standards compliant, we need to change our designs.
