YouTube is planning to offer social-bookmarking and networking features. This week, YouTube had unveiled an experimental page that allow few selected users to receive personalized video recommendations, lists of videos added to friends’ pages and other exclusive social features. These features would be made available for all users soon.

The experimental page had a new algorithm which creates a list of video recommendations based on past selections, and on current and past lists of favorites. In addition, those in the experimental program get a new interface that displays the videos that have just been added to their subscriptions.

The experimental page also includes a “Friend Activity” feature that tells users about updates to their friends’ lists of favorite videos. The experimental site also has a new dashboard with stats about a user’s inbox activity and data about total video uploads, total views and the like.

There you go. Yet another social networking website coming up. But seeing the popularity of YouTube among common people, it may be a good option.

I don’t know how good this will be – there’s Orkut already. Why couldn’t they integrate Orkut someway, like pull Youtube vids to Orkut? That way, the huge userbase of Youtube can be pulled to Orkut too.

Its a bit useless, like Digg’s ‘features’.

Actually if you think about it it’s pretty surprising that these features come so late. Was they protecting some businesses with that?
