This blog moved to Bluehost in June after severe downtimes with my previous host and ever since the move, this blog has been experiencing least downtimes and I should say its up for 99.98% of the time. Well I think this is good percentage when compared to other hosting services and also an excellent response time.
Ram from Teknobites had problems with Dreamhost and his blog was not indexed by search engines. Mayank from Tiposaurus says that his blog was down for 9 hours with Media Temple and for this MT has provided additional 2 months of subscription.
Well, I dont say one host is good and others are not, I rate hosts based on experience and value for money. With 20$ per month and 9 hours of downtime, I will not take up Media Temple even if they give one year of subscription free. I value readers and blog uptime more than freebies.
Here is the uptime data for this blog hosted on Bluehost ( November and December):

Total Uptime : 99.98%

Total Uptime: 100%
Why I suggest Bluehost:
1. Very high uptime and response time rates compared to other host services.
2. Very good customer support (Live Chat).
3. Cheap and affordable web hosting as compared to Media Temple.
The data collected are using Pingdom services. You can also read my other post on Bluehost services. If you would like to sign up for Bluehost, please use my referral link in the sidebar.
If you had some experiences to share on web hosting, do share it in comments.

that is cool nirmal…what is the price like?
yep i just noticed 6.95 dollars per month…
From my 2 years experience, no host is good/bad if you’re on shared hosting. Only small difference (or something you wouldn’t care for) will only be there.
If you’re on shared hosting and your blog gets to Digg and/or Delicious front page. It’ll be down. You’ll start cursing them.
Anything more than 450-500 visitors at the same time is enough to bring your blog down.
I’m on BlueHost for the past 4 months and I agree with all the points above. BlueHost is the best!
Well Nirmal, thanks for the link back first…although not in the best manner but still
Anyway, what Ashwin said is also correct, these webhosts are not meant for high amount of traffic. I agree that I don’t get that much traffic and that 9 hr. downtime is not good but they did ensure that we were already informed about it and they did compensate me…without asking…how many webhosts do that.
It’s all about customer service and I think they are good in that.
I am using DreamHost currently and know how many problems it has. Anyways before the end of the month I will be moving to my own dedicated server
which is owned by my friend.
When I started searching for the host for my wp blog, the first host I chose was DreamHost, just because they were offering a discount of $75, which means I had to pay only about $22. I oredered the hosting, but they were not accepting payment via Paypal. So I withdrew my order, as I didn’t want to use my Credit Card.
Then I went for Lunarpages, who just work fine for me.
Thanks God, I didn’t chose DreamHost.
Wow. Nearly 99% uptime. I wish I have the money to host mine on Bluehost!
I have been thinking about starting a new blog . I guess i will use Bluehost now. Btw do they have any discount coupan system like Dreamhost.
@Ashwin,
I have clearly said one hosting is not better than the other, what I have done is a comparison of the prices and value for money. If you say that 400-500 visitors at the same time will bring your site down, then I beg to differ with you. I have never had any such experiences.
@Mayank,
I didn’t mean to tell that MT is not good. But taking $240 a year and 9 hour downtime even if they inform is not the good sign of a top host.
@Silky,
I have heard that Lunar pages is also good.
@Madhur,
I recommend Bluehost, there are no discount coupons actually like other hosts. If you are signing up do use my referral.
@ Aswin
Yup Aswhin you are right.
Am looking for Dedicated server or VPS.
Any Sugg Plz….
That’s a great uptime percentage. Bluehost is one of the better hosts. I might just switch sometime
How are they when your site consumes heavy bandwidth?
I have been disappointed by big names as indiatimes.com in terms of trouble free hosting!
Raj-
Slice Host is good for VPS. I don’t think you might need dedicated hosting unless you have some 300+ visitors at your site at the same time.
My site has been down for the past day and a half, after I experienced 7 DAYS of it up-down-up-down last month. It’s infuriating. So, I’ve been looking where to go and bluehost sounds good but I’ve been with my host so long, I’m scared to make the switch.
Jalaj, as a rule of thumb, avoid any hosts that are Indian simply because they charge too much and are useless..
I’ve currently with Bluefur hosting for a month now and am glad to say that the uptime is 100% till date. Plus the support is very fast and effective as well.. I would recommend that, since they have an offer going on now as well.
@Angela,
In case you are switching to Bluehost, you can use my referral.
@Jalaj,
I agree with Vijay’s rule. Dont go with Indian sites as they charge very high rates.
@Vijay,
Thanks for the info on bluefur hosting, looks like a good one.
Nirmal ,little offtopic – how much monthly bandwidth
this blog consume/month
@ Ashwin
I Have one more blog.
and that one is also hosted with Bluehost.
And Most of the time i got this error
This Account Has Exceeded Its CPU Quota
@Raj,
That happens because you have not optimized your blog. Aseem has given nice steps to optimize your blog for that CPU exceeded error.
You can find it Here
@Rahul,
Infact I have not checked it anytime. I’ll check it at the end of this month.
Good question.
