The latest buzz in the blogosphere is obviously the PR update which was done to reduce to PR of many top sites. Today I noticed that Google has also started the regular PR update and I’m happy to say that my other blog (Cellularized) has got PR3. This blog is still at PR4, there has been no change till now.

google Pagerank

Now the question which everyone asks is How Important is PR? Well many of the tops blogs which lost PR has claimed that PR is not going to make sense any more. Well in this case I beg to differ, just because the top blogs have lost PR, how is that the PR is not making sense anymore? I interpret it this way- The blogs which lost PR have been penalized for selling links or doing some thing which is against Google which only Google can clarify.

On thing that can be confirmed is that for money making purpose, PR is not going to have any impact as link sales have been banned by Google.

For me Google PR is still very important, so whats your thought on this? How much impact does PR have on your blog?

    I’m not seeing any changes on my blog’s pr across multiple datacenters. Maybe it will stay that way or maybe it’ll change in a couple of hours.

  2. PageRank updated. I’ve got PR5. Can I shout ‘Yayyyyy’ ?

  3. Mani Karthik says:

    :???: :???: :???: :???: That’s my response to it Nirmal. Indifferent. It’s not important anymore as long as you have traffic.

  4. Well nirmal i agree with you that PR it is important …google will slowly and surely integrate PR with the search algorithm…

    and Nirmal, I am happy to tell you that my blog has been promoted to PR4 from PR 0…I saw Digital Inspiration at PR6…so the other discussions that 5 is the top most PR is no longer valid…

  5. While my other blog has gone down from PR4 to PR2…It was more popular and I was having one text link ad there…so surely selling of text link ads is affecting PR…

  6. I am happy to say that my blog was ranked for the first time today. After only a month and a half of existence, I am at page rank 3. My other blog on MMORPGs is now page rank 4.

    I am not sure whether page rank is important anymore. People seem obsessed with it, but I am not sure why. It seemed useful in selling link, but that seems to be changing.

    I wonder if companies like TLA will modify their code to suit the PR changes.. They are affected as well.

    @BrownBaron,
    Even I didnt get any PR update.

    @Myo Kyaw Htun,
    Congrats on PR5 :smile:

    @Mani,
    Well I agree with your thoughts, what I was conveying is that just because top blogs have lost PR, doesnt mean that PR is of no use. :grin:

    @Indyankk,
    Congrats on PR4

    @Technobuzz,
    Congrats on PR5

    @Fred,
    Congrats on PR3

    @Vijay,
    Lets see how TLA is going to cope with this one, they are the worst hit.

    I have to admit that I am not a Pr fanatic.. i have a conservative and traditionalist approach to search engines as well.. provide information and if it is relevant it will get linked..thats the way internet works.. and when it gets linked enough it has to show on the search results good PR or not.. my blog also got a small upgrade .. PR 1 thank you very much :) now having that wouldn’t make everyone come to my website would it…

    anyway i have compiled a list of reactions to the pr update here..

    feel free to add to that :)

  10. I just reached PR4! Woo hoo! I was hoping for 5, but oh well! I still think PR is pretty important. We’ll see how long it lasts, but for now it’s still a factor to be concerned with.

  11. Keith Dsouza says:

    My PR increased to 4 but i guess it will go up as I have backlinks from very popular sites.

  12. Ramkarthik says:

    I like the PR system but now it is of not of much use. You cannot monetize much from it. Anyway, I’m happy that my blog new blog Blogging Tune got a PR5 which is surely unexpected. :smile: All the best for your blog’s update. Hope you get a PR6. :grin:

  13. nirmaltv says:

    @Maneesh,
    That list was good one, mixed response. :grin:

    @Aseem,
    Congrats on PR4! :smile:

    @Keith,
    Congrats on an increase, mine did not show any move, still at PR4! :smile:

    @RamKarthik,
    Congrats on PR5! :smile:

  14. Shashank says:

    I was away for a while and now when i ve returned there’s PR PR everywhere…. Google has really hit the blogosphere badly… btw i got PR 6 how lucky i am :neutral:

  15. nirmaltv says:

    @Shashank,
    Congrats on PR6. :smile:

  16. I got 5 this time. I’m sure it’d have been low if I had sold text links.

  17. nirmaltv says:

    @Shankar,
    Congrats on PR5, well deserved one! :smile:

  18. ram says:

    @Nirmal
    I got PR 4 from PR 0, but i don’t think it is useful in any way. Google wants to dominate the internet like anything, this update shows that they can do anything. I feel it’s better for us to promote other search engines also not to beat google but to have competition in the market.

  19. nirmaltv says:

    @Ram,
    Congrats on PR4. You are right, they want to own the internet.

  20. Mine is showing 4 as well as 3 across various data centers. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

  21. nirmaltv says:

    @Madhur,
    When I visited your blog it was showing 3. Looks like the update is not over yet.

  22. Mr.Money says:

    Yes i have loose my PR form 3 to 0

  23. Magic says:

    Well i dont think PR has any meaning anymore.

  24. Jalaj says:

    PR by default should be Google’s internal measure (one of many) for deciding search result position. Google decided to make it public and thus started the PR race…

    If google decides to remove public display then also it will exist… ultimately traffic is what matters…
