Importance of Blog Author Photo in About Page
Recently JohnTP wrote a post on Importance of an about page in the blog. He has mentioned about advantages of having a good About page in the blog. About page is one of the most visited pages in your blog and I have noticed that the About page in many of the good blogs I read does not have a blog author photo.
Having a blog author photo is always good in getting an unique identity in the blogosphere. Many blog authors provide information about the author, but fail to keep a photo. With myBloglog avatars round the corner, it may not be difficult to find the blog author, but here again many people use some default images.
Another point I noted about few blogs is that they have an about page but they do not any information about the blog author, sometimes not even the name of the author. Apart from this some authors tend to use fancy names to give them an unique identity, but I feel its important to have a author photo as well as a brief description of the author.
Does your About page have a author photo? Comments and Suggestions welcome.

Hi there,
It’s an very important point.
Whenever i visit some blog, next thing i want to know is the person responsible for the content.
If i fail to see the authors pic, the next thing i ask is that why is the person hiding himself/herself?
oh ho ..
looks like i ve edit my about page..
@Sunil,
You are right. I too feel that the author is hiding if there is no blog author photo and also even if he is not revealing his name.
@Shashank,
I think your about page is the default WP about page. Change it as soon as possible.
Point taken, Nirmal.
I don’t have it yet.. But planning to put one soon
Actually i ve written about me in the very first post of my blog …just linked it with the about page
will make it more detailed in the future .
I didn’t have a picture in my about page until about a month ago when I read an article saying that you should so that your readers can connect your name with a face.
Yeah !! even before writing my first post at my blog, I wrote the about page…I think everyone should have a proper about page …with information about the author and the blog. Some people are not much comfortable in putting a photo on the net …. but still i would suggest to have it in blog if not on Community sites.
I agree they should have a photo, mine doesn’t yet… but it’s on the to-do list.
@Shashank,
Instead of linking, I think its best to have an about page. I dont think it will take much time to add one.
@Micheal,
You are right, readers can connect your face with the blog.
@Kanak,
I dont think that bloggers should be uncomfortable putting up a photo in their blog.
Hmm…Huh! Seems tricky but I will partially agree to it and partially not. I am a 14 yrs old kid and what if I place my snap of my About page and people see it and think “It must be that he is copying the content from somewhere or is ….” and what if I want to hide my identity like the chap of QuickOnlineTips.com did, he calls himself PChere for online and his real name is something else!
What about it? Anyone any tip?
Bah, making an About Page is to much work.
All kidding aside, I actually just made one last week due to reader demand. I’m still working on the picture thing. I figure if people want to see my picture, then can be my friend on Facebook for now
@rishi,
I agree with you on that fact, people tend to have misconception. QOT calls himself PCHere, was wondering what his real name is?
@Kyle,
About page is most important page, good that you made one.
Well its good to have your Photo in about apge as identity but ….i think i am not ready for it yet
I reworked my About page not too long ago complete with photo! I still feel the content is lacking though so I’ll probably be updating it again soon. (#):)
Not everyone wants to reveal their identity.
There are many reasons. They may have an employer and sometimes your boss ends up reading your blog. This is not necessarily good for you!
Also if you are writing on controversial subjects, it is better to be anonymous. I know a guy who lost his job, because somebody wrote a letter to his company!
But you still can post your picture like I do
@walkin job guy,
I agree with your point, there are some instances where you may want to be anonymous. I wanted to know the opinions and view points on this topic. I feel at least the name should be available, if not the photo.
In fact scared of paparazzi and autograph hunters. Nothing else.
I agree with your views, Nirmal. I’ll have to put up a photo
I definitely prefer an about page with an author photo. Actually, I just prefer sites with an about page. I like to know where the writer is from, I don’t need a street address but just a general region so I can put their writing into context.
Maybe some are scared to put a photo up for any number of reasons – someone will know them personally, or they are ugly. I’m just saying…
@Shankar,
I’m waiting to see your latest photo.
@Angela,
Thanks for sharing your comments. I too like to see a bit of information about the blog author.
@Vinod,
In that case its better not to display your photo.
You are right Nirmal . A photo is a must on an about page .
definitely a picture of the blogger on the about page is the first am looking for when i get interested in the blog.
or at least a decent about page.
when its not there, i really don’t like the blog or site..because i wouldn’t trust something i cant is for real. isn’t that human nature?
lol
If being anonymous helps you to express yourself completely, then it is fine to refrain from uploading your snapin the about me section of your blog. But many bloggers would like to keep their readers curious abt the author. I know one such blog!!! Quite a logic behind such acts, isn’t it? What do u feel?
thanks for the tips guys, i am off to find a good picture for my profile now. chao. this was an excellent section.
@Suresh,
Still I don’t have any idea behind authors making readers curious about their identity.
I do not feel that you have to be anonymous to express yourself, in that case you have a fear.
