Safari Available for Windows XP and Vista

Apple has released the beta version of Safari Browser for Windows XP and Vista. This should be the best news for developers.

First thing I did was to download this beta version and I tested my blog on this browser. It looks good in Safari and there is text smoothening as pointed out by Arpit. Few fonts which I have used in my blog are also not available in Safari.

Apple claims that Safari is much faster than any other browser available. Although I didn’t feel this effect as my blog is loading faster in Firefox, it could be because of the fact that its still in beta version.

Shankar points out that Snapback should be a unique feature of Safari. SnapBack lets you instantly snap back to your original search results or to the top level of any website, even after you’ve browsed down a few levels.

Private browsing is another feature which I liked in Safari. With private browsing (Edit->Private Browsing) the history of web pages visited is not saved.

Overall Safari looks promising (although I have used Safari previously) with its features and we should see good competition for Firefox when its out of beta.

You can download Safari and also install plug-ins for Safari on Windows.

  1. Found it hoggy. Hope they clean out issues when they come out of beta. Other than that, it’s lovely. :mrgreen:

  2. I heard that it uses up a lot resources, don’t know if it’s true. It looks pretty good though. Of course, I don’t think I’ll be leaving Firefox anytime soon :mrgreen:

  3. Well I am in the office now :( will have to home and try it properly the 10 mins I spent today morning was not enough :D

  4. @Brown Baron,
    Its true that its consuming lot of resources. I too wont be leaving Firefox.

    @Arpit,
    I have installed in office PC :smile: Looks good, but slow to respond, unlike the comparison chart you displayed.

  5. it uses lot of resources and very slow on my system

  6. It crashed few times when I tried to bookmark.
    Gave up and removed it instantly.
    I am sticking with Firefox and Opera.

  7. @Ram,
    Its slow on my PC also.

    @Kuanhoong,
    There have been lot of complaints about the bookmark section. It seems to crash when you add a bookmark. I’m still using Firefox.

  8. Thank God it didn’t crash for me. The only problem I have with it is its memory usage :shock: . I wonder how it’ll perform if I install any plugins for it ;)

  9. Safari Beta sucks :roll: Will try the final version again.

    At present I do not see any danger to Firefox but I cannot say the same about IE. :twisted:

  10. Manas,
    Presently it will not pose any danger to Firefox, but once its out of beta, it may. Lets wait and see. BTW Safari crashes if we add bookmark.

  11. This Browser is really good,especially it has got a option called Private Browsing :D

  12. Vikram,
    Once the browser comes out of Beta, it will be really good one.

  14. @Madhur,
    For me Safari was not that fast while loading and also its taking up more memory. Hopefully these will be sorted out in the final version.
