Most Commonly Used Chat Abbreviations

We all use Web Messenger for chatting with our friends and relatives. One of the conveniences of Chatting online are using abbreviations. We use various abbreviations and here is the list of most commonly used ones.

  • AFAIK- As far as I know
  • ASAP- As soon as possible
  • A/S/L- Age/sex/location?
  • B4N- Bye for now
  • BBL- Be back later
  • BRB- Be right back
  • CRB- Come right back
  • CYA- See ya
  • FAQ- Frequently-ask question(s)
  • FYI- For your information
  • TGIF- Thank God it’s Friday
  • THX- Thanks
  • WTG- Way to go!
  • KIT- Keep in touch
  • IMHO- In My Humble Opinion

  6. Well, The list is long and cool. But, how much helpful is it for me..I’m not sure. My typing speed is good so, I make less use of these abbreviations. BRB is the most used Abbreviation by me….and I don’t think of any other apart from this

  7. I type 60 to 70 words per minute on average, so I rarely use abbreviations at all. I don’t even use them on IMs. People ask me why and I really don’t want to go into an explanation each time. I will now though. I learned to type on a manual typewriter in high school back in 1974. I spent my first two years (1979-1981) in the military typing various documents for the CO (fitness reports, naval messages, publications, etc.). Just the practice caused me to pick up speed. So… why abbreviate when I can type the phrase faster than most people can type the abbreviation.

    People who have learned typewriter will have good speed and wont use abbreviations. You have great speed with typing. :smile: Although I have only average speed, I rarely use abbreviations. :smile:
