Top Freewares to Connect Sony Ericsson Phone to PC
Being a Sony Ericsson phone user, who’s currently focusing on reviewing phones and finding tip and tricks in SE phones to make the best use of phones, thought of posting the best free wares available to connect your Sony Ericsson phone to PC using Blue tooth, USB cable or Infrared port.

Unlike the general free ware software, which do not have complete options available, these are open source softwares which give you lot of options to control your phone from PC.
Here is the list of Sony Ericsson free ware for PC connectivity;
1. floAt’s Mobile Agent:
FMA is a opensource software application which allows you to connect to your mobile phone from your PC.
FMA is a powerful phone editing tool allowing users to easily manage all of the personal data stored in their phones, via a number of different connections methods. FMA is a SMS Manager, Mobile Phone Monitor, Remote Control Agent, Phonebook Manager, Organizer, Fun and much more. FMA supports connectivity by Blue tooth, Serial post and Infrared.
Sending and receiving SMS is pretty simple using the FMA interface. The home page shows inbox, outbox, calls, phone details (which include battery temperature, charge, software version, voltage, manufacturer, serial number and much more) and personal details.
FMA can also be used to upload files into the phone. Using FMA phone can be used as remote control to control your PC. FMA supports all Sony Ericsson phones except the P series. Although people have tested compatibility of FMA with other manufacturers like Nokia, full features are only available for SE phones. The user manual can be downloaded from here. Check out the FAQ section for more details.

I use MyPhoneExplorer and I swear by it. I am also able to send Flash Messages using it, though I cant send it using my phone alone.

Any idea how to edit sony ericsson w700i phone book? - I need to add and delete a lot of phone numbers on that list.
I cannot sit and key in some 300 entries which are readily available on an Excel sheet.

@ Keshava
I believe this would work. But only you can confirm that if you test it.
(I use MyPhoneExplorer[MPE], so will use that as an example)
MPE allows import of contacts in various forms, including csv.
Export your excel sheet as csv to your desktop.
Then:
MPE > Contacts > Phone > Put cursor anywhere in the right contacts pane > Rt.Click > Context menu > Import > Point to your CSV file on your desktop > OK
MPE will import all your contacts.
(Be sure to match up the format of you csv file with that required by MPE)
Now to get the new contacts into your phone:
MPE > Contacts > At the top click the |Synchronise] button/icon.
(Be sure to set up the sync parameters so that you don’t lose any contacts during the syncing process)
Hope this helps.
@ Nirmal:
Would you agree with the above process?

@RJ,
I agree with the above process, it allows you to import contacts.

HEre are the results of my comparison fo the two software to download SMS messages to my PC, tested on a Sony Ericsson w810i.
http://www.onenew.org, one planet one chance
Sony Ericsson w810i
1) Float Mobile Agent (FMA)
export formats
CSV MIDDLY recognized directly by excell, uses “”, as delimiters
XML
HTML
Takes all the received message, phone memory PLUS SIM memery together
Fields: Doesn’t take the names as set in the mobile phone to establish exported file. (when exported message, doesn’t map the names to the phone numbers exported with every message).
Pros: Restablish a database on the computer and works whithin ITS OWN configuration, for messages at least.
Elaborated and many functionnalities.
Direct answering to SMS messages.
Handles all messages, complete in that sense.
Cons:
Merge SMS message, on phone memory and SIM memory
Export of SMS message don’t recongnize expedient’s name as set ont the mobile phone
Doesn’t retrieve draft messages
Doesn’t handle parts of multi-SMS message very well.
2) MyPhoneExplorer
export formats
SMS native format, hexadecimal
CSV good formatted better recognized directly by excell, uses “”; as delimiters
XML
HMTL well formatted
TXT text
Fields: It does take the names as set in the mobile phone to establish exported file. (when exported message, it maps the names to the phone numbers exported with every message).
Pros: VERY HANDY, outputs data as we want them directly, human readable
really simple interface like the handy phone itsefl
Does retrieve draft messages
Really works like the phone itself, with same menu and configurations
Retrieve the expedient’s name as set in the mobile phone when exporting messages.
Cons: simple and seems more limited than FMA
In the saved items, mixes message SENT from me as well as message RECEIVED by me. But this as set on the mobile phone.
It seems there lack some original messages in the exported messages (found 1 over about 40 during a test).
Conclusion RJ
I choose FMA software as it is more complete and raw treatment of data. I use XML and CSV as standard formats.
