My First Theme
Finally I have completed the design of my first Wordpress theme. This theme will be exclusive for this blog. ![]()

This theme is widget supported and I have kept this theme as simple as possible. The links on the header have icons for better navigation.
I have made some changes to the sidebars also. The Recent Comments and Blogroll section are removed from the sidebar. Blog roll section has been moved to links page.
Suggestion and comments on this theme welcome. I would definitely like to improve my design skills.
I’m currently working on my second theme which would be available for download. This theme would take a little more time to develop due to increased work at office. ![]()

Great work on the theme, I can definitely draw some inspiration from it for a new theme I am working on for my site.
BTW how to you add the links to the top menu and show it on a page.

Very nice theme.
One suggestion that I have is to make the icons in navigation menu (at the top) also clickable.

Hey excellent work with the theme :).When can we have the other theme for public?
hey can u post tutorials on theme making?
Jun 5th, 2007 at 8:56 am
Great job, Nirmal. Clean and simple.
Jun 5th, 2007 at 10:24 am
@ Techie Buzz,
We can add the links in 2 ways, either directly using the php call for pages or by manually adding the links using tag.
@Pallab,
Thats a gud suggestion. I too wanted it that way, but IE is showing the icons in weird way, thats why I removed it.
@Adheeth,

The other theme would be available for public download. I’ll try to give a tutorial on theme making.
@Shankar,
Thanks for your comments and help.

Super theme …suggestions? here goes!
1. Agree with Pallab. Make the icons clickable, like the windows docks…images that popup on roll over…wud be a cool effect.
2. move the digg, delicious and other links to the bottom of each post…that way the reader can do it after reading the posts. and you can remove the share this plugin that way.
3. the current rollover color of red shud be changed to orange or yellow for better visibility.
4. move the date and “posted in” below the title like pallabs theme…that way it will be useful to see the no. of comments made and date easier…
5. sell this theme modified premium…it has the quality..that way you dnt loose the uniqueness of the theme to your site..like copyblogger…
good luck…

I like the header image more than the theme
Jun 5th, 2007 at 7:25 pm
@Anand,
Thanks for your suggestions. I’ll implement the 2nd and 3rd. Regarding the first one, the problem is IE, which shows these icons weirdly.
@Technobuzz.net and Sharique,
Thans for your comments.

I agree with Sharique. The header is lovely. I love your theme
Jun 5th, 2007 at 9:10 pm

Jun 5th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
hey looks good I like it :D. Thanks for dropping by my blog.
Jun 5th, 2007 at 9:48 pm
Looks cool man. But I hope your public theme will be cooler than this one.
By the disable “Notify me of followup comments via e-mail” option on by default.
Jun 5th, 2007 at 9:50 pm
I think I didn’t make the last point clear. That need should not be checked by default. If visitors really want to subscribe, let them check it. Just my humble opinion.
Jun 5th, 2007 at 9:59 pm
I agree with Aswin its better to leave it unchecked by default
Jun 5th, 2007 at 10:06 pm
@Arpit,
Thanks for your comments.
@Ashwin,
I’ll change the settings. Initially I had kept unchecked.

Jun 6th, 2007 at 2:36 am
Great job man.keep going like this.
the header is very catchy.
Can I download this theme.
Jun 6th, 2007 at 7:36 am
Nice and neat.
I know you said you have problems with IE and the icons but keep trying. I have seen others site do it so it would be great to have them clickable.
cheers,

Nice work Nirmal!
BTW, Is this theme a complete make up from scratch or is it a variation to existing one?
Small suggestion.. I hate the small square icons along the comments. Can’t you remake that out?
Jun 6th, 2007 at 11:13 am
Great work Nirmal ….your theme really rocks
Jun 7th, 2007 at 10:44 am
Awesome! Simple and elegant…
Jun 7th, 2007 at 3:15 pm
Nice theme, Nirmal! I wish I had the ability and drive to do this for myself. The backend is easy, but the graphics — I suck!
Jun 7th, 2007 at 5:17 pm
Thanks all for your comments.
@Benedict,
I have removed the square dots in the comments section.
Jun 8th, 2007 at 12:38 pm
I must say that I was really impressed with the look of the theme. Its bright and vibrant and you’ve really done a great job with it..
Have any ideas of creating WP themes for release?
Jun 8th, 2007 at 12:40 pm
One more thing I would like to say about the design is the links on the top. As pallab said, it is kind of odd to click the text only instead of the images. I guess thats because I am used to clicking on images in such cases more often..
Jun 8th, 2007 at 3:24 pm
Vijay,
Thanks for the comments. I’m working on releasing a new WP theme.
Jun 8th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
Nice theme! I’d suggest you to make icons in the menu clickable in some way, maybe extending the <A>s with CSS…
Jun 8th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
Looks nice & simple …

Waiting for your public theme.
Jun 9th, 2007 at 3:31 am
And about the RSS icon in the top menu bar, is it the way it is meant to be? I felt that the RSS icon was looking kind of different compared to the other icons, in terms of texture.
Jun 9th, 2007 at 5:52 am
@Andrea and Manas,
Thanks for the comments.
@Vijay,
The RSS icon is from a different Icon set, thats y the difference.
Jun 11th, 2007 at 6:07 pm
Can you give me some idea about the adsense ctr with this new theme. I am afraid that the header icons are over-catchy, so they might not give a good adsense experience.
Jul 21st, 2007 at 10:37 pm
This theme is so amazing that I am feeling a bit jealous of you. I myself author themes and now I am trying to keep myself away to touch my theme so that I could concentrate on the real contents.
Nice work.

@Wordpress Plugin Advice,
Glad that you liked the theme.
