The latest entrant to the Walkman series of phones by Sony Ericsson is the W580i-The Street Style Walkman. W580i could be said as the big brother to popular model W550i.
W580i comes in two colors, Style White and Urban Grey. The dimensions of the phone are 99 x 47 x 14 mm / 3.9 x 1.8 x 0.5 inches and it weighs 94 g. The screen is big with 240×320 pixel and supports 262,144 colors.
W580i is a slide phone and the keypad is well organized and is similar to the keypads found in older version of Walkman phones.
Coming to the features of W580i. W850i has a personal trainer which keeps track of your progress in training. It counts your steps during a day and, if you want it to, it will monitor running speeds and performance.

Another good feature is the Track ID. When you hear a song you like but you don’t know the artist and other album details, then you can ask TrackID™. All you have to do is to Record a few seconds of the song and use TrackID™ to send the music to the Gracenote Mobile MusicID database for recognition. In few seconds, you’ll have the name, artist and album sent to your phone.
Interesting isn’t it?
W580i comes with a 2MP camera, 4X digital zoom with video recording capabilities. Picture blogging is also enabled in this handset. Other features include;
- RSS feeds
- Blue Tooth
- 3D Games
- Radio
- EDGE
- GPRS/MMS
- Web Browser
- Video Streaming
W580i has an internal memory of 12MB and is extendable using the M2 memory stick from Sony. Sony Ericsson has not given information regarding the size of memory card this handset will be shipped with. Since this is a Walkman model, we can expect a min of 256 MB card.
The talk time is 9 hours and standby time is 370 hours which is really good for a phone of this range.
Verdict: W580i is packed with features and looks trendy. And with expandable memory (short coming for W550i), it would definitely capture markets.
Price of this handset is not known till now, but with all the features and Walkman, we can expect this to be priced in the upper premium category (around Rs 15000/-).
Rating: 4/5

Thought I dont find it aesthetically pleasing, it may be of interest to other people. – AnitoKid at http://www.anitokid.blogspot.com.
@AnitoKid,
I checked out that phone. I too didnt like the color and it looks similar to the samsung model, I dont remember that name.
Anyway good to see that other companies are also into competition.
Why is sony so obsessed with orange! I hate that colour.
Pallab,
Anyway it depends on the users.
I like that orange walkman.
You are right, Sony is very much obsessed with orange. The orange color has been the trademark feature of Walkman phones and I have even seen people going for orange color in particular.
