Encyclopedia of Life

The scientists across the World are planning to compile everything about the earth’s 1.8 million known species and design it into a website.

The project, named as “Encyclopedia of Life”, will include species, descriptions, pictures, EOLmaps, videos, sounds, scientific journals and all references to any forms of life. The first few pages (demo pages) was made available couple of days back. This is going to be a massive effort from leading scientists, institutions and universities across the world. The estimated completion time of project is 10 years and it would have an estimated 300 million pages.

The effort cost for the first two years is estimated at $12.5 million. The important thing is that this effort would be free and accessible to everyone.
