Firefox Addon: Speed Dial Websites in Firefox
Speed Dial is a Firefox add-on which will allow to easily access your most used websites. It works similar to the speed dial functionality in Mobile phones. The add-on is very simple to use. Download and install the add-on. Once you have installed, your Firefox toolbar shows the speed dial icons. Click the icon with + symbol to add a new website to the speed dial.
Speed Dials can also be set using the “Set as Speed Dial” option in the bookmarks menu, or right click on the tab you want to add, and choose “Set as Speed Dial”. That option is also available in the contextual area menu.
You can view thumbnails of all the websites you have added as speed dial option. To view this click on the icon “Open a new tab with Speed Dial”. A new tab with all the websites set as speed dial is shown. A maximum of 9 speed dials can be assigned.
Speed Dial will be automatically loaded in blank new windows. It can also be set to load in blank new tabs. To configure this, and other options, use the extension settings panel.
You can download this extension from here. Although we can bookmark most visited websites, still I feel this is a pretty useful add-on, so why not give it a try?

I’ve installed this plugin, but I didn’t see the ” ” anywhere. Can you help me out?
Ok, got it. Cool plugin to load your FX with. Thanks to point it out.
Ashwin,
Hope you have got the icon in the tool bar. Its very easy to use this. Its similar to bookmarking.
Well It has been a long time since I used FF…(you can see my name changed, you know the reason right ?Nirmal..)
Let me run through as what happened. I didn’t add the icon from the toolbar. I then played with the options (added this in new tab thing). Then whenever I opened a tab, the speed dial thing opened. Then I opened the list of my frequent sites and added them by right clicking the tab.
I’ve added the icon, so no issues now.
I’m using a FX which has problem (I’m going to try the profile thing is that helps me). So I can’t add new bookmark. Otherwise bookmarking is easier. As we can add on the fly, add more than 9 sites and the best part is I assign a letter for a bookmark. When I type the letter and hit enter, then I can open the site.
Good that I installed 2 FX plugin, one is this and one is the Flickr access (Flickr is banned in the UAE).
Wah… what a story!
Nirmal is there a restriction for Chitika membership.. and what is it based on (CPA,CPM..), how do they pay?, What script do they use to show ads
Windows tips and free software review,
I think there is a restriction based on the number of page views per month. Its 10,000 monthly page views, although they accept less also, not sure about their approval process. Their ads are CPC, cost per click. Its similar to adsense.
They use javascript codes.
Ashwin,
Your story was caught by Akismet spam, I just released it.
You are right, there is the restriction of only 9 speed dials. Bookmarks are always good.
Btw why is Flickr banned in UAE?
“We apologize the site [Flickr.com] you are attempting to visit has been blocked due to its content being inconsistent with the religious, cultural, political and moral values of the United Arab Emirates.” – So Flickr is banned.
By the way, I never knew Chitika is asking 10k page views. My blog was also accepted long time back, but I don’t think I had 10k page views at that time. Also Chitika has both CPC and CPA campaigns.
Ashwin,
I saw the message in Amit’s blog and also read about the plugin for firefox.
While registering for chitika, it accepts less than 10k per month, but there is a message that blogs with more than 10k visitors are preferred.
It’s a nice feature that is available in Opera browser.
very cool, thanks!
This does appear to be a nifty add-on. I’ll be sure to give it a try. I also like to use the one called Clippings. I use it all the time to avoid having to type out URLs and such.
it’s not as good as opera
you can’t type in web address manually to a window
it doesn’t refresh the screeshots, so u can’t tell if the page has been updated
it’s got alogng way to go before it can match opera
I’ve installed FX on a Windows 7 DELL Studio 1737 plus the great addon “Speed Dial” but I do’nt see the SD icon in the navigation toolbar, nor in the bookmarks toolbar.
What did I wrong ?
