Recently I have been doing some bidding and buying through Ebay. Although I had registered with eBay in Mar 2002, I didn’t purchase anything till recently. I have been closely watching eBay for quite some time now and also doing some bidding lately. Presenting here is some of the things which we need to take care before going in for a purchase or a bid.
There are 2 main categories under which items are listed. One is the
category and other one is the auctions category.
items are those items which we can purchase directly and instantly. Once we click
we will get a confirmation that we have purchased the item and payment is pending.
Things to remember:
- Check all the specification of the product you are going to buy.
- If you have any doubts regarding the item, then do contact the seller through the link available.
- Check for the reputation of the seller. This can be done by checking the feedback score, which is written in braces against the seller’s name. Check for comments given by other buyers who purchased from this seller. More on Feedback
- Never go by the pictures shown in the listings, confirm with the seller regarding colors and other specification which are not listed.
- Before buying confirm if the list price is not higher than the current market price.
The second category is the interesting one-Auctions. Auction may start from Re 1/- or from a fixed price given by the seller. All the things listed in first category applies to Auctions also. Once you click Bid Now button you commit to buy this item from the seller if you’re the winning bidder. Once you place the bid next thing would be to watch the item closely and see if anyone is bidding more than you. Once the item is ended (each item will be listed for a specific time) and if you are the winning bidder, then you get the item. Payments can be made through different ways which is listed in by the seller. Apart from this one important thing to note is that some items may be listed with Re 1/- price with no bids at all and which are ending soon, but have a look at the shipping cost also as auction price is not the only price you are going to pay. Total payment cost includes auction price + shipping costs. There are many occasions where shipping costs may be very high and selling price may be low. Also check the return policy and warranty on the items listed.
Once we pay for the item, it may take 4-7 days to receive the item depending upon the location of the seller and don’t forget to leave a feedback for the seller regarding the transaction.
